BRAZIL, Lucas Romagnolli Between July 13th-21st, 2007 the fourth pastoral mission of the University of Londrina was carried out. It was held again – for the second time- in the city of Florestólis, Paraná with the objective of concluding the mission that was begun last year.

The Youth were divided into four groups of about twenty members each and carried out their own business and activities within a section of the city. Each year the university mission attracts more young people who give up a week of vacation time in the middle of the year to carry out this large apostolate in the name of Christ. This year’s mission had its greatest number of participants since its inception, which made it possible to visit all the homes of Florestólis, currently the largest city to receive the mission.

University youth, missionaries for Jesus

The Blessed Mother is surprising every mission by attracting more youthful hearts. As often happens a few days before the start of a mission, few missionaries have arrived to participate. However, by time the date approaches, the Blessed Mother has assembled her allies and the mission is carried out as planned.

Last year, during the first mission in Florestópolis, the Word of God was announced resulting in a deepening of Christian life through the reflection of everyday sanctity. Good, enjoyable activities were provided for the children, youth, and adults. A daily Holy Mass also attracted many people.

The motto for this mission was: University youth, missionaries for Jesus, which was based on the theme of the 5th CELAM (Conference of the Latin American Espicopate) Conference. And these University youth were truly missionaries of Jesus; although they suffered from the cold and the rain, they did not give up their mission. They continued visiting the homes and carrying out the activities that had been planned. They were true apostles, giving themselves completely to Christ and Mary in every situation.

A dream comes true: A weekly Holy Mass for the youth in the parish

At the conclusion of the mission, the fruit from the seeds sown last year, in addition to this year’s greater yield, could be seen. They were ready for the harvest: the mission covered the city, there was greater participation from the local parish, the youth groups were strengthened, and the youth of the parish will have something they dreamed of beginning on August 5th; there will be a weekly Holy Mass for the youth.

Now, the missionary youth are called to flourish in their soil. After what they accomplished in Florestólis, they need to prosper in their own cities, since their mission continues as long as there are youthful hearts to be conquered for Christ and Mary.
