SCHÖNSTATT. Many people both within and outside of the Schoenstatt Movement have been following the unfolding of Fr. Kentenich’s process of canonisation with great interest. In February of this year, Fr. Ángel L. Strada said that the canonisation process had progressed well. In an interview with Zenit, the Catholic news agency, he expressed the hope that the diocesan phase in Trier would soon be completed and that then, the process would move on to Rome. "Have there been any new developments in Fr. Kentenich’s canonisation process?" The answer: "Yes". Fr. Ángel Strada: In the last few months, the history commission in the process continued with the work of reviewing and evaluating the several thousand writings and documents by and about Fr. Kentenich. This work was completed a few weeks ago, and with it, we have completed an important phase. Work has also been done on the documentation concerning his cause for sainthood. What is still needed in order to complete the diocesan phase of the process? Fr. Ángel Strada: Several canonical requirements must still be complted, namely the "non-cult decree" which proves that unacceptable liturgical cults have not been attributed to this Servant of God. In other words, he should not be venerated as one does a saint or anybody who has been beatified. In addition to this, the technical preparation of the records and all of the documentation must still be completed (that is, numbering the pages, photocopies, legality...). This will still take some time. A miracle is an indispensable element for beatification, that is, a healing that does not have a scientific explanation. For this, we should all remember to pray for a miracle. Translation: Sarah-Leah Pimentel, South Africa |
