BRAZIL, Sister M. Nilza P. da Silva. "Great are the works of the Lord, to be treasured for all their delights." (The New American Bible, Official Catholic Bible) These words from Psalm 110 were confirmed again during the blessing of the MTA picture for the Shrine at Jacarezinho, state of Paraná, Brazil by the Holy Father Benedict XVI during his stay at the Monastery of Saint Benedict, in Sao Pablo, Brazil.

Upon receiving the photos, the date and time of the blessing were verified: May 10th at 2:00 p.m. Divine Providence was admirably revealed. The Shrine receiving this picture is in the city where the first twelve Schoenstatt Sisters of Mary resided after arriving in Brazil on June 10, 1935. Exactly one month prior to this on May 10, 1935 (also the day of the 2007 blessing of the picture), Father Joseph Kentenich gave a conference of sending forth, in which he gave them the mission of taking the Schoenstatt message to the new world to be seeds of faith by carrying the cross and the Shrine with them.

Every work of the Lord is worthy of admiration

Who would have imagined that precisely seventy-two years later, on exactly the same day, the representative of Christ on earth would bless the picture for this Shrine? Such an event fills us with joy and gratitude while at the same time confirming in us: confidence. The first Sisters were sent forth with the motto: Mater habeit curam! (Blessed Mother will take perfect care!) Supported by these words, they faced many challenges in new lands, and they accomplished the germination of Schoenstatt’s seed that flourished under the care of the Blessed Mother.

The Blessed Mother is loyal

She has truly taken care of those who were given to her; this was evidenced by the abbot of the Saint Benedict Monastery, Dom Mattias, and the vice prior, Dom Carlos Eduardo Uchoa Fgundes, Jr., who consecrated themselves to the Blessed Mother in her Shrine. "Dom Eduardo expressed the desire to have a copy of the picture of our MTA to put in a place of honor in the monastery. He wanted to pay tribute to Her among the students of the school and of the faculty. Furthermore, he told us that he owed his vocation to our Blessed Mother. Since the moment of discernment for his vocation, he prayed in the Shrine many times, and he has a picture of the MTA in his room," Sister M. Patricia explained.

Victorious Confidence

May this blessing of the Holy Father, Benedict XVI, touch everyone who contemplates this image of grace with faith. May She from her Shrine intercede, so that each person who visits her grow in victorious confidence and instrumental self-giving, so that each Shrine may be a "School of Mary" in which one learns to love Christ and become like Him, the beloved and heroic Son of the Father.
