USA, Rebekah Claire Haskins. Heavenwards, Always has at long last arrived! It is hard to believe that it was a year ago that it all began. It was just six or seven of us girls and Kathy Kanewske standing around the keyboard, singing and learning. Each week Kathy would teach us a new song, and with each new song we would come to see a little bit more of Father Kentenich’s great mission and heart.

We used to dream together of recording, of putting out a CD with some classic Schoenstatt music. I think we still don’t realize that the dream has become a reality. Father Kentenich has truly made his vision apparent in this music. Praying Heavenwards through singing Heavenwards is an experience that lifted our spirits beyond a simple comprehension of the words into the heart and meaning of the prayers and their author. Just as I learned when I first came to Schoenstatt that the Blessed Mother leads us constantly back to her Divine Son, so too does Father Kentenich lead us constantly back to the image and love of Mother and Child.

The "studio shrine"

So with Father Kentenich at the helm of this endeavor, and Kathy Kanewske as first mate, the girls, several musicians and a recording expert made up the crew of the ship that led to Heavenwards, Always. Our MTA was with us all the way. Every time we recorded in the studio, we brought with us pieces of our room shrines. The windowsill between the sound room and the recording room was busy with small pilgrim MTAs, a relic of St. Therese, pictures upon pictures of Father Kentenich, rosaries, holy water, and a piece of the roof of the Original Shrine from the Covenant of Love for the Youth of the World. In our studio shrine, we experienced the Covenant, we experienced the sacrifices of Dachau, we experienced the joy and responsibility of freedom, and we experienced all of this through Father’s words.

I never imagined last March what the album would actually look like. It was hard to imagine that there would one day be an actual disc of music with a plastic case with images on it. But now that I hold it in my hands I see that it looks just how it should to portray visually the music and the miracles that inspired it.

The cover calls out at you. It beckons you to come closer to it until you realize the gate that at first lies open for you to enter through is also a sign of harsh injustice. But if you listen closely to the words of Father you realize that the injustice, the sacrifices are gifts of love transformed by the love of the Triune into a stream of graces flowing from the Shrine of our Mother Thrice Admirable. The words beckon us through the gate of injustice toward the gate of heaven open above and beyond the gate.

He viewed the world in childlikeness

When you look at the photographs of Father Kentenich printed on the leaflet you’ll see that in his eyes are all the joys and the sorrows of our Mother, all the joys and the sorrows her son carried, and all the joys and the sacrifices of our worldwide Schoenstatt movement. When I look in his eyes and think on how through singing and praying his words in this C.D., the eyes that viewed the world in childlikeness became the eyes through which I could see the world. Then I see the world he saw while he was in Dachau. It was destitute, harsh, and cold. But what he saw that harshness with was an unswerving loyalty to the Blessed Mother. And I see through that loyalty, the pursuit of the ultimate new shore, the Kingdom.
