GERMANY, Gabi Schmickl. Since 2002, a blessing for future mothers has been organized twice annually in the district of Neckarsulm, Germany; and eventually the blessing was also extended to their spouses. Twenty-eight ladies have received this blessing, since this celebration was organized by the Mothers’ Branch of the Schoenstatt Movement. Along with the blessing, each mother receives a little basket with a pair of booties for the baby, a candle and above all the promise that she will remembered in prayer, says the pastor, Father Vaas. Since May 2006 the Mothers’ Branch has given the future mothers or couples a Schoenstatt Pilgrim MTA along with a notebook that accompanies the picture. As of now, each mother has gladly taken the Pilgrim MTA home. They write the due date of their baby’s birth, and the one closest to the delivery date receives the Pilgrim MTA first. Then the Pilgrim MTA continues to travel to the next mother, who is close to the delivery date. The Pilgrim MTA has never been detained for this blessing that is offered twice a year (Spring and Fall). The mother of a young mother who was expecting her first child went to this blessing with all of her family. She, radiant with happiness, commented: "I had never seen anything so beautiful". After the blessing the young single mother called one of the leaders and told her: "Thank you for this wonderful initiative, which has been a great help to me. The blessing for future mothers was fantastic!". This experience strengthens the blessing ceremony even more where the visit of the Pilgrim MTA will continue to be offered.
