SCHOENSTATT, mkf. Another 18th of October 18th dawned quietly, with crisp air and brilliant fall sun, at the Original Shrine - another anniversary of the Covenant of Love that was celebrated in more than 180 shrines and innumerable wayside shrines, and this day especially in the Shrine of Tuparenda, Paraguay! In the morning there was a Covenant Mass in the Original Shrine at 10:00 a.m. celebrated in Spanish by Father Ángel Strada. He sent a special blessing for all the pilgrims who would go to Tuparenda this day(video  audio) and to all the people from Paraguay, as well as each and every one of the pilgrims who gathered this day around the Shrines and wayside shrines throughout the entire world.

There was a poster about the celebration of the 25th Anniversary of the Shrine in Tuparenda, and a framed page with 25 commemorate stamps from Paraguay on the altar. Father Ángel Strada especially greeted Dr. Enrique Molas, from the Family Work in Paraguay, who is representing all the Schoenstatt Family from Paraguay in the Original Shrine. He was in Geneva on business, and on October 17th he traveled by train (10 hours) to be in Schoenstatt on the 18th , from where he returned to Geneva with the train leaving around midnight. But as he says: "The many hours by train were worth it even if only to be in the Original Shrine for one hour". It was very touching for his family, and also for his group leader, when he called them in Tuparenda at their cell phones, in the midst of all their preparations for the celebration, and sent them greetings and blessing from Schoenstatt. A special privilege: Covenant of Love in the Original Shrine - on October 18

It was a most international Mass, where all the Schoenstatt Family was represented, with Schoenstatters from Argentina, Bolivia, Mexico, Paraguay, Germany, Ecuador, United States, Brazil, Chile, Portugal, India…Fernanda, Melisa and Yanet –three girls from the Girls’Youth, who are in Schoenstatt for a while as volunteers for the Sisters-sealed their Covenant of Love, with the privilege that this means to be able to do it at this place and on this day that are so special! In his homily, Father Ángel stressed that all the history of God with humanity and with each one of his children is a history of covenant of love. In the personal history of the Covenant of Love with the MTA it is important to take it in the perspective: not to look at it first from us to the Blessed Mother, rather, from her to us. When we look at it from our perspective, he pointed out, we are always going to feel useless, poor, inept, and not prepared –for which we wait and wait until we are sure that we are sufficiently prepared to seal the Covenant, and once that we seal it, many times we feel disloyal or unworthy of this covenant because of lack of merit. But we have to look at the covenant from the MTA, who invites us, who gives us the opportunity. If someone gives us a gift, we do not say "oh no, excuse me, but I cannot accept it" rather we are glad and grateful. That is how it is with the covenant; the MTA offers it to us, like she offered it 92 years ago. It is the "nothing without you" that we should take seriously, it is she who wants to work through us, and it her who will never break the covenant. Our "nothing without us" is the happy and loyal response to the Blessed Mother’s offer.

The youth from the different countries were in charge of the musical accompaniment, who delighted everyone with their guitars and songs from India, in English and in Spanish.

During the final blessing, Father Ángel again prayed for those who today go on pilgrimage to a shrine, especially the Shrine of Tuparenda.

At the end of the Mass, it was time for greetings and unending congratulations beneath a radiant sun…

Love, fruit and expression of freedom

On October 17, 14 pilgrims from Miami had sort of a Vigil Mass with the renewal of the Covenant in the Family Shrine, it was the highlight of their pilgrimage to Schoenstatt. Father Clodoaldo, from Brazil, in his homily spoke to them about love, which was what motivated Father Kentenich throughout his life, and it also characterizes Schoenstatt. Love cannot be an obligation; rather, it is an expression and fruit of freedom.

Two groups of pilgrims from Brazil stayed in House Sonnenau during these days of travel through the Marian Shrines of Europe. Both groups wanted to be present in Schoenstatt around October 18th!

On October 19, the Journey of the Delegates of the German Movement began in Schoenstatt, the journey opened with the delegates participating in the Covenant Day Mass on the evening of the 18th in the Pilgrims’ Church. Father Heinrich Walter preached the homily (extra article).
