MEXICO, Victor Lagunas. The blessing of the land in Taxco, Guerrero, for a future Schoenstatt Shrine, was of great importance during the October celebrations in Mexico.

The blessing of the land took place on Monday, October 16, 2006, in the town of Cajones, close to the city of Taxco, Guerrero, in Mexico, where it is hoped that the Blessed Mother will descend and erect her Shrine.

The Schoenstatt Family of Taxco organized the event in which the Family Branch, the Mothers’ Branch, the Men’s Branch, and the Girls’ Youth participated. Bishop Alejo Zavala Castro, of the Diocese of Chilpancingo-Chilapa was welcomed at 12 noon by the Father Guadalupe Catalán, a member of the Diocesan Institute of Schoenstatt Priests.

The people came out enthusiastically to see the pilgrimage

Punctually at 12:30 p.m. the pilgrimage began with decorations of white, blue and yellow balloons. The vehicles departed towards the community of Cajones, honking their horns as they passed through the towns. The people came out enthusiastically to see the pilgrimage, formed by more than 50 automobiles. They arrived at the site at 1:00 p.m. and the program began as planned in the midst of much joy and happiness.

Father Guadalupe Catalán Oropeza welcomed everyone and he informed the more than 400 people that were gathered about the origins of the Schoenstatt Movement in Taxco. Additionally, he explained the International Schoenstatt Movement.

The Holy Mass was concelebrated by Bishop Alejo Zavala Castro and by Father Guadalupe Catalán Oropeza. Even when a strong rain began no one moved from their seats, the Bishop alluded that God was blessing the land with the rain.

United by links to seal their fraternal commitment

Monsignor Alejo Zavala Castro blessed the land. During the Mass there was a mutual feeling of fraternity among all those present. They united with links around the altar and all the members of the Schoenstatt Apostolic Movement committed themselves to unite in the Covenant of Love with Mary so that the Movement will grow, and in this way they can build the Shrine. At the end of the Mass all the communities that donated about four hectares of land were recognized, this land will be used to build the Shrine, the Pilgrim House and meeting rooms for retreats and journeys of spiritual formation.

The event concluded with a meal prepared by the members of the movement and the pilgrims. It was shared with everyone who attended, in this way, they experienced some community time, where the motto for this year was recalled, "With you, Father, we build your family". Everyone who attended this historic day for the Movement in Taxco agrees that they received the graces from the Blessed Mother, who will give them signs, little by little, so that soon she will establish herself in her Shrine in Taxco, Guerrero.
