ARGENTINA, Facundo Bernabei. At 3,200 meters above sea level, our Blessed Mother was on pilgrimage during the month of July, visiting her children in the hills of Salta, Argentina. From July 10th to the 15th, a group of seminarians of the Schoenstatt Fathers, along with 20 members of the Boys’ and Girls’ Youth from Salta, visited the ranches and homes of the people living on the mountain of Santa Rosa de Tastil. They also visited the small villages of La Quesera, Alarcito, Huaicondo, Corte Blanco, and Carrera Muerta.

During the mission, the group walked many, many miles and went to great effort to visit each and every house, down to the last one, so that everyone in the area would receive a warm visit and greeting from Mary.Similar to the majority of other missions, children were a main focus of the outreach. The mission volunteers were able to go to two rural schools, where they held activities and gave lessons. The school children learned about the sacrifice and commitment of those on the mission that had come to teach them. But perhaps they were most affected by hearing from the children themselves who were on the mission; they had braved both wind and cold during four hours of walking to get to the classrooms and share the mission with the other children.

Giving all our energy for the cause of the MTA

In the end, the participants characterized the mission as "very profound." Profound because they were able to enter deeper into these mountainous and rural lands and learn more about the people and their way of life from within. They were able to learn about the peoples’ suffering, hopes, and efforts, as well as their great love and their desire to grow and make progress in their characters and lives. The mission was also profound because of the sense of community that was experienced and shared by all. During the weeklong mission, the group members created an atmosphere of genuine family love that was exhilarating, joyous, and filled with missionary spirit. Finally, the mission was profound because of what God did in each one that participated. The religious experiences that God gives during missions such as these are so deep that all return with their spirits renewed and with their hope and faith enlivened and inflamed. And this mission was no exception: each of the members came home refreshed, encouraged, marked and changed by this profound experience of faith, of service, of community, and of giving all their energy for the cause of the Blessed Mother.

Like a sea of flames…

The spirit and result of the mission can best be captured in the words of one of the participants that shared at the mission’s closing: "In conclusion, I want to express my gratitude to all the Boys’ and Girls’ Youth from Salta for giving me the opportunity to share the dream they have been struggling for and working towards for such a long time. I also want to thank Father Pablo Pol for always being there to accompany these ‘dreamers’ and for inviting me to this mission. And thanks to the Blessed Mother for taking care of us. She will surely make our mission fruitful now and in many other missions, until our country ‘a sea of flames, burns to the glory of the Trinity.’" (Heavenwards, p. 131)
