PARAGUAY, Father Antonio Cosp/mkf. "August 20th will be a feast day! We will again crown the Blessed Mother as Mother and Queen of the Nation of God! We will place the foundation stone of the altar of the Church!", read the invitation which has been widely extended for the participation of the new milestone in the Schoenstatt Holy Year of Paraguay, which will culminate on October 18th with the Silver Anniversary of the National Shrine.

"Tuparenda, some 34 kms. on the route of growth of the country, a very beautiful place. Each October 18th, an unforgettable celebration; Sundays full of grace; Holy Week experienced with profound unction, a welcoming retreat house; pastoral attention by trained elite that dedicate love, time and effort. The years go by, they weaken and tire us…but the guardians, servers and old and young sacristans are there along with many others offering their lives like Jesus, serving like Mary: "whoever sees me sees you". Thoughts by Father Antonio Cosp, National Director of the Schoenstatt Movement in Paraguay, that strongly motivated the Schoenstatt Family in preparation of the August 20 celebration of a new foundation of Schoenstatt in Paraguay in the Jubilee Year of the Shrine.

To found anew – so that form does not devour the spirit

"To place the corner stone of Holy Mary of the Trinity Church is a singular act of the New Foundation of Paraguay’s Schoenstatt", says Father Antonio Cosp. "We were especially urged by a text of Father Kentenich about the necessity of founding Schoenstatt anew in each generation".

In 1967, during a retreat for priests of the Federation, Father Kentenich said: "The specialists commonly say that a religious community – even the strictest order- moves according to definite principles. One of them reads: more or less after fifty years, practically every order should be founded anew. What does this presuppose? That also the religious communities – as high as their aspirations may be – are progressively subjected to the laws of decadence of human nature…We can also apply this to the situation of our Schoenstatt Family as a whole.

Normally each generation, whether of the institutes or the federations or of the pars motrix, should build a new foundation. A new foundation, however, in the broadest sense of the word. That is to say, to found anew. This is a proposal against the danger of formalism. If we assume what was here and there, tranquilly resting on our laurels: once we have conquered our place, we rest on it. Yes, each generation in reality each course should say – let’s think about our pedagogical institutions –not to interiorly found the work anew, that is to say, if it does not interiorly re-make what already exists, nothing valuable will emerge from the community. The old phrase will surface that says: at the beginning the spirit creates it own form. If those who follow do not try to conquer that spirit from which different forms emerge anew, in the future the other part of the phrase mentioned will take place: form devours the spirit".

Every 25 years a new corner stone

The idea of "founding anew" becomes graphic, concrete in a "new corner stone for Tuparenda, for the Schoenstatt Family and for my heart" every 25 years. On May 31st of 1981, 25 years ago, the corner stone for the National Schoenstatt Shrine in Paraguay in Tuparenda was placed. The corner stone that would be placed on August 20th in the Holy Mary of the Trinity Church is a symbol of the new foundation of Schoenstatt in Tuparenda, in the Schoenstatt Family and in each one of the Schoenstatters. "Imagine what it means to make a great hole where the altar will be and there each branch, institute or federation and each ally of the Blessed Mother will place their Founding Document, also the pilgrims, to whom 5000 parchments were distributed, as models that give them simple support to fill it with gratitude, petitions and offering", Father Antonio Cosp shared. This great hole will be closed with a stone from the Jesuit settlements, close to Ka’aro where Saint Roque González de Santa Cruz" died. "This Sunday, August 20th we will prepare ourselves to give the MTA of Tuparenda another crown, after it was stolen:, commented Juan Carlos and Gloria Lobos. "There will be many missionaries of the Campaign offering their resolutions in this re-founding of the Schoenstatt in Paraguay, placing their intentions in a hole that is covered by the foundation stone of the Holy Mary of the Trinity Church, and of course, preparing ourselves for October 18th, the great jubilee."

Why did you dedicate so much time to America after Dachau?

"More than ever guardians of the dawn" (John Paul II0) being the corner stone of the Nation of God, says Father Antonio, and he invites us to imagine three special interviews with the Blessed Mother as the journalist!

"First with Roque González de Santa Cruz, the first martyr of Paraguay. I can imagine the Blessed Mother saying to him:

Roque, for whom did you live, what did you live for, how did you die?

For you and for Jesus. For the Kingdom of the Father, I died bent down, building a church.

Then, I imagine the Blessed Mother conversing with Father Kentenich.

Why did you dedicate so much time to America after Dachau?

I traveled through America seeking allies for my Marian mission that transforms man and the world.

And what did you offer Paraguay that is celebrating me so much for my presence in Tuparenda?

Mother, I will remind you. I arrived to Posadas in a hydroplane, I went up the little ladder of the port, the priest who waited for me with Sister Ursula told me: Father, that is Paraguay. I looked at it with love and nostalgia. I recalled the year 1917 when with the missionary section of our incipient Marian congregation we worked on the history of the Jesuit settlements. I remembered Roque González since he founded the city of Encarnación that I was seeing at that moment. But you told me: not yet. The time will come. So on May 31, 1949, I answered the letter of the first ones with my best blessing. Listen to them when they sing "The Lord went out to sow" and "Mother of Tuparenda" where this story appears and the great ideal of giving you a Paraguay = Nation of God.

Every corner stone needs a new founding document

The Blessed Mother comes out to interview each one:

"Each diocese, each branch and each one founds anew. Today the Blessed Mother visits me and she asks me: My sons Roque and Father Joseph did their thing. My dream for Paraguay is very big. You are my favorite children.

What will your contribution be to approach the Nation of God in the year 2031?

The response to this question is what we call the founding act of Schoenstatt in Paraguay for the next 25 years. We are invited to place it in the foundation stone of the Holy Mary of the Trinity Church. In this way we begin a new founding generation. The first one was made almost 50 years ago on May 31, 1959. The second one was made on March 19, 1974, with the blessing of the temporary shrine in Oliva 526. The second generation, just 7 years later, raises with its hands the national shrine on October 18, 1981. Each one of them gave their marvelous fruits".

Tomorrow we will reap what we sow today

Let us begin with Luque…was what Father Zacarías Martínez proposed to a group of fathers. In an article by the journalist, Miguel Ortiz Granada, Father says to the people of Luque that Luque is an x-ray of all the ills of Paraguay he challenges them to look at a "Luque of 2011", bicentennial of our independence, as a goal and a challenge to transform the city. For this he makes them see that their children who are presently preparing to make their First Communion will be 15 years old with all the ills that many today of this age are experiencing or of constituting a new youth that comes from a new family. We receive a motto from the Blessed Mother for the present time: Schoenstatters from Paraguay, "your shrine, heart of the family of Paraguay". Still today, for many, to work a la Luque" is synonymous of something wishy-washy. Our people from Luque have said for some time: we do such or such a thing a la Luque that is synonymous of a filigree of a high aesthetic level.

The indulgences that we can gain during this jubilee means: God is ready to forgive you and to give you the chance of a new beginning that means your courageous, generous, intelligent giving of self to build the Nation of God. The renewal of the coronation that we will make during the great celebration of the national family for the 25th Anniversary will be the symbol of the "nothing without us". Today we initiate the future. The year 2031 will the moment of judgment for the generation that begins today. The important steps to verify our progress: Sunday, May 31, 2011 and October 18, 2014, the centennial of the Shrine and of the Covenant of Love. The Lord went out to sow…a part of the seed fell on hard ground, another among the rocks and the thorns; another gave one hundred per cent".

Holy Mary of the Trinity Church in Tuparenda

The construction of the Holy Mary of the Trinity Church began in 1999. It is a gift and a blessing of God to make this desire of may pilgrims who come to Tuparenda to encounter God through Mary concrete.

Father Joseph Kentenich always visualized a Trinitarian Church beside all the Schoenstatt Shrines in the world. Since Mary is the temple of the Blessed Trinity, this Church in Tuparenda will be named "Holy Mary of the Trinity".

As all endeavors, it will take much time and much Capital of Grace; the spiritual conquest is enormous. That is why it is being built by parts.

In the year 1999 they built the Portico of entrance to the church; in the year 2002, the foundation of the church was started, in the year 2003, the pillars and the concrete slab, in the year 2004, the flooring, and in the year 2005, the roof of the central nave. In this way, little by little, they see structures, like the arms that unite the pillars one with the other and they are filled with joy for the greatness of the creator. Some stages are still needed: roofs, closures, and equipment.
