ARGENTINA, hel. The Father Joseph Kentenich Bioethics Commission from the Secular Institute of the Schoenstatt Sisters of Mary and in close collaboration with the Bioethics Institute of the Medical Sciences Department from the Pontifical Catholic University of Argentina presented on Monday, May 29th (date when Father Kentenich arrived in Argentina in 1947) at the headquarters of the Catholic University the book entitled PERSONALIST BIOETHICS – ORGANIC VISION OF FATHER JOSEPH KENTENICH (Editorial Patris/Argentina) (439 pages) by Sr. Dr. Elena Lugo in collaboration with Sr. Virginia Perera (Argentina).

The intention with this work is to respond to three great challenges of contemporary bioethics.

Responding to three challenges

1) The foundation necessary to overcome postmodern eclecticism and relativism of secular bioethics….. as a response it was proposed to rescue the importance of the person in the context of a philosophical anthropology according to the ontological personalism of Bishop Sgreccia complementing with pedagogical aspects of the formation of the person in the postmodern age according to the organic vision of Fr. Kentenich.

2) The need for a methodology unit to respond to dual visions which contrast idea and life…..visions which suppress and focus life on terms of pleasure, convenience and limited consumption to earthly existence. To respond to the epistemological demands of bioethics proposes to redescribe natural, practical reason as different from the person, as revelation of the ethical principles in the first order and to revitalize the natural, moral law in the light of the pedagogy of ideals, attitudes and personal attachments according to the organic thinking of Fr. Kentenich.

3) The need for a pedagogy close to life, neither intellectual nor accommodating to what is immediate or useful and showing how to respond to this question. Bioethics should count on a basic objective and a coherent methodology.

Bishop Elio Sgreccia, President of the PONTOFIOCIA ACADEMIA DE LA VIDA, personally entrusted the author with responding to this challenge including her personalist anthropology with the thinking of Fr. J. Kentenich.

The presentation of the work belonged to Dr. Vicente Gutiérrez, President of the National Academy of Medicine and to Alberto Bochatey, Director of the Bioethics Institute of the Pontifical Catholic University of Argentina. Both highlighted the spirituality of Fr. J. Kentenich as a vital source for the teaching of bioethics capable of evangelizing and as a support for the search for truth from all perspectives until reaching the wisdom which only the saints like he reach.

Organic integration

The book attempts to demonstrate that upon applying to bioethics organic thinking or the "organism of attachments" as drawn up by Fr. Kentenich, enrich the anthropological foundation and eases the integration of ethics and daily life. This is an integration which this discipline should support the biomedical professions and culture in general. But it is also a form of leading the person to the teachings of the Father and Founder as a response to the most urgent questions of contemporary culture. The intention is to demonstrate in this way that his work is not only for all times but for all topics which concern the meaning of life, its promotion, protection and celebration under the influence of the Mother Thrice Admirable who shows Herself as Victress over anthropological heresies because she in the Immaculata.
