What is my wonderful Blessed Mother doing here in that Shrine?

The testimony of the lady from Nigeria who came to visit the German Virgin Mary, resounds in Milwaukee

Obviamente, la Mater ya fue presente en el país muchos años antes de la construcción del Santuario

Obviously, the MTA was present already years before the Shrine was built

Offensichtlich war die MTA schon Jahre vor dem Bau des Heiligtums im Land

USA, Christi Jentz. After reading this article I had to chuckle a little about the MTA working in Nigeria. There is no doubt in my mind that the MTA through her picture has been working very hard in Nigeria for many years. Here are the details of a visit that happened in Milwaukee in the year 2004, as I recall them.

Often we have visiting priests celebrate Holy Mass at the Milwaukee Shrine and one particular morning our regular "visiting" priest was not available and he had asked another priest, Father Uko, to take his place. Father Uko was working on his Doctorate at Marquette University at the time. After processing into the Shrine and before beginning Holy Mass, Father Uko greeted those in attendance and spontaneously shared a wonderful personal testimony. He explained that he had received the picture of our MTA many times while in Nigeria, as far back as the 1980’s according to his recollections. However he did not realize that the image was anything more than just a nice picture of the Madonna and Child. He passed these out to people and especially to women who wanted to conceive. He recommended that the women pray for her intercession in these matters and he witnessed a high success rate.

What are you doing here?

But, after many years, the Blessed Mother had an almost shocking surprise waiting for him on that day in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, of all places, he said. Upon entering the Shrine he looked up and saw his wonderful picture adorning the Schoenstatt Shrine. It was as if he asked "what are you doing here?" I remember him relating this event with such enthusiasm and joy. And then again, during the sermon he talked more about the connection he had with this picture. I did see Father Uko once again at the Shrine and I was able to give him some more information on the new Nigerian Shrine and the ordination of the first Nigerian priest. For me this event was a reminder of how the Blessed Mother goes out of her way to plan little surprises for her dear children. I hear that Uko has left for a different area in the United States. I hope that if Father Uko ever returns to Nigeria, he will be able to visit the Nigerian Shrine. Say a special prayer for him that he does!
