ARGENTINA, Joaquin Lavini. Last Saturday 18 at 18.00 Monsignor Dr. Jose Luis Mollaghan began the new Pastor of the Archdiocese of Rosario, province of Santa Fe. Argentina, who comes from the Diocese of San Miguel, close to Buenos Aires. It is interesting to note that he was accompanied by more than 12,000 people, among them was a large group of the Schoenstatt Family, who placed the Auxiliary of the Campaign on the steps of the altar so that would accompany him.

In his words of welcome, Monsignor Eduardo V. Miras (Archbishop Emeritus) said: "Welcome to Rosario, May God help you with his light and with his grace".

The colors of Mary’s mantle

Rosario is the second city of the province of Santa Fe – the name of this place is eloquent: it manifests an evangelization that is simultaneous to the conquest of these lands – and it is the third in the country in population. It is a region rich in natural resources, which is presently recuperating from the crisis that devastated the country at the end of 2001. It is built on the banks of the abundant Parana River. Its port is of special importance for the export of the agricultural products to the exterior of the wide region. A monument of great dimension marks the place where the Argentinean flag was sworn in, in which its creator, Manuel del Corazon de Jesus Belgrano, used the colors of Mary’s mantle.

The new archbishop responded gratefully that he had come to fulfill God’s will, "that he wanted to reach the hearts of everyone with this pastoral service, with this service of love and truth which is founded on the promises of the resurrected Jesus". He continued saying, "my heart is full of very deep feelings and I ask that you pray to the Father so that I can be a good shepherd of his people… For the Bishop, to offer the water from the source that is Christ is to serve, and I want to live this mission that was entrusted to me in this spirit of service." Later he asked for the inhabitants of Rosario: "to have a missionary heart and to have an encounter with Christ in our poorest brothers". At the end of his address he expressed his gratitude to the entire city for its cordial welcome, and to all the authorities who were present, especially to his predecessor –who received a warm ovation – and he asked that they pray for him and his mission. He entrusted his task into the hands of the Patron and Founder of the city, Our Lady of the Rosary.
