Daily Adoration in the Shrine of Gafanha of NazareFruits of the Year of the Eucharist: the continuation of adoration
|
PORTUGAL, Sister M. Heloise. In the Shrine of Gafanha de Nazare, Portugal the Year of the Eucharist proclaimed by the late Pope Paul II, from October 2004 to October 2005 has been lived intensely. Among the different activities that developed throughout the year, the extension of daily adoration of the Blessed Sacrament in the Shrine is to be mentioned especially. Many laypersons collaborated actively, assuming one or more hours of weekly adoration. In this way it was possible to maintain six hours of adoration during several months. Then it was seven hours and finally it was eight hours daily. Twenty –four hours of uninterrupted AdorationTo close the Year of the Eucharist, a vigil of twenty-four hours of continuous Adoration was held. It began on the 29th of October with a Holy Mass at 8:00 a.m. and it ended on the 30th with the celebration of the Eucharist at the same time. Several hundred persons came to the Shrine for hours of Adoration as well as to participate in the Eucharistic celebrations. Now that the Year of the Eucharist has ended, it was decided to continue with Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament in the Shrine from 10:00 a.m. until 18:00 p.m. for and indefinite period of time.
