SOUTH AFRICA, Sr.M. Joanne. The celebration as the Schoenstatt Family gathered around the Shrine in the diocese of Johannesburg began on 18th October with a Mass to celebrate 30 years of the Shrine’s blessing. The Shrine in Johannesburg is named Aurum Patris: " Gold of the Father", and the words engraved on the foundation stone are : "build from here a better world". The celebrations continued on Saturday 22nd Oct. with talks and the various Branches reporting on their highlights of the year and what their emphasis for 2006 will be.

There was much to be thankful for with the final consecration of the first Mother’s Union course for South Africa and Zimbabwe as well as the third course finding their ideal-"Sign of Light", a number of young people who made their covenant of love committing themselves to bring the Pilgrim MTA to others, and last but certainly not least, the Young Women’s League reported back about the World Youth Day. There was enthusiastic applause when one of the representatives showed the star from the original WYD Logo that was blessed by the Pope. This star will travel around Africa and it will hopefully bring much blessing and inspiration to the Catholic youth of Africa.

Pilgrim MTA’s and Home Shrines forming a guard of honour

After a cenacle hour of praying with and to the holy Spirit, the gathering gave their ideas for the motto and in no time at all they had the guideline for 2006: From the Shrine, fan the flames of youthful hearts

Sunday 23rd was the culmination of the celebrations with the placing of the seven stones in the holy Spirit symbol which we have been working towards since 2003. The final preparation involved everyone in praying a novena to the holy Spirit considering the seven gifts as well as bringing a special contribution to the capital of grace on those 9 days. These were burnt on the Saturday afternoon. The Sunday began in the Shrine with a holy hour in honour of the Trinity, followed by input on our Schoenstatt doxology. The afternoon saw the climax with holy Mass and a solemn but joyful procession to the Shrine with the holy Spirit symbol now embellished with the seven stones. Pilgrim Mother images and home shrines formed a guard of honour along the way. And afterwards, in true Johannesburg Schoenstatt fashion, all enjoyed a delicious tea.
