INTERNATIONAL, MKF. In all the Schoenstatt Shrines, as well as in thousand of wayside shrines, October 18th – the 91st Anniversary of the Covenant of Love – was celebrated with pilgrimages, rosaries, Masses, covenants.

Many people attended some of these celebrations; others were outstanding because they coincided with an anniversary or a special event. Covenants were sealed…and there were celebrations "of loyalty". Just like every year, the Blessed Mother’s children loyally gathered to renew their "Yes" in the Covenant.

Villa Ballester, Argentina

The new day of the Blessed Mother in Villa Ballester, Argentina was experienced with great joy. "It seems like just another day, but no, we want to celebrate so that everyone can see that the joy on our faces comes from the heart, for these 91 years since the first Covenant of Love that the sodalists and our Father and Founder sealed with the Blessed Mother," comments Nora Bracci. According to tradition, they gave a picture of the Blessed Mother to the Institutions that have received the visit of the Auxiliary during the year. Father Jose Maria "Pepe" Vallarino, a former member of the Boys’ Youth (1980s), celebrated the Holy Mass and was presented with a symbol of the Holy Spirit. He received it with these words: "There are no coincidences in the things of God." The institutions that received the pictures were the Sports Club of Villa Ballester, the Association of the Children’s Home of Mary of Nazareth, the Eva Peron Hospital of acute care, the ninth Commissary of San Martin, the Mission Ceramic Factory, and the Court of appeals of General San Martin.

The missionaries of the Campaign pray to the Mother and Queen to bless these pictures and help them to treasure them always.

Haydee Millore had the privilege of celebrating her birthday on the 18th of October. Nevertheless, it is known that a birthday is sometimes a day of much work for the celebrant. Someone invited her to start her day in the Shrine. Haydee tells how she lived this day: "I arose and I had a list of things to do but I decided to begin celebrating with the Blessed Mother and my Covenant brothers and sisters in the Shrine.

Reuniting with such beloved people, the Eucharist, and the words of Father Pepe, made me feel very much loved by God. I was very happy and as Father has said, there is no love without suffering and mine no longer worries me. In gratitude, I united myself to the prayer of the One Thousand Hail Marys.

I believe everyone should feel like I do, since it was truly a morning of celebration. I joyfully returned home walking, accompanied, and without pain. I felt lighthearted and I was not tired. I was prepared to continue like this for the rest of the day with my family.

Thank you for the call that oriented my steps. "

Trujillo, Peru: A large pilgrimage

The family of Trujillo, Peru, celebrated Covenant Day, early, on Sunday the 16th with their annual pilgrimage to the Shrine. Two processions departed towards the Shrine from the Parish Mother of Christ and from Ovalo Papal. A Mass was celebrated at 9:00 a.m. where more than a thousand people attended, among them, many families that received the Pilgrim MTA (there are 350 Pilgrim MTA Shrine in circulation in Trujillo). Those who made the longest trip were the 16 pilgrims from Los Organos. They traveled 8 hours by bus. The event featured art contest about Mary and the Eucharist and over 35,000 contributions to the Capital of Grace, including rosaries and small sacrifices, were offered.

Winnipeg, Canada: Rosary in five languages

The small Schoenstatt Family of Winnipeg gathered the night of Covenant Day in the Church of Saint Alfonso to pray the Holy Rosary, which was prayed in English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, and Slovenian. It was a strong experience for everyone. The candles that were lighted were of five colors, representing the different immigration currents within the radius of the parish and of the diocese. "It doesn’t matter if you come from five different continents and we have different languages, we understand each other, we are the same people of God, around Mary, our Mother". One of the Pilgrim MTAs of the Campaign was on the altar…Paulo and Maria incorporated some songs in Portuguese and Slovenian will be in the song sheet for next month. The small Schoenstatt Family has decided to continue with the prayer of the Holy Rosary every 18th.

Goya, Corrientes, Argentina

A novena to the Blessed Mother to prepare hearts for the Covenant of Love was prayed at the wayside shrine of Our Lady in Goya, along with a Holy Rosary that is prayed every 18th.

On October 16th, Mother’s Day, after the praying of the rosary and the novena, there was a meteada, which is something like a family tea-time only "Spanish-style".

On the 17th, there was a cantata preceding the gathering of the Schoenstatt Family for the Covenant of Love. There were also dance performances, a chamamecero which is traditional music from the interior of Argentina. And then suddenly, at the stroke of midnight on October 18, all joined in praying "My Queen, My Mother"…a prayer that united all hearts, just like that 18th of October 91 years ago.

Pereira, Colombia

The 5th National Encounter of the Schoenstatt Family of Colombia was held in the city of Pereira, capital of the Department of Risaralda, from the 14th-17th of October.

One hundred persons gathered from the different delegations. Father Sidney Fones gave a talk about the fifth Episcopal Conference that will take place in the city of Aparecida, Brazil. The focus is essentially about discipleship and he invited them to work on this in Schoenstatt.

The joy of how the family of the Father has grown in these few years of existence could be felt.

The movement is starting up in five cities: Bogota, Medellin, Armenia, Pereira, and Cali; the respective members have committed themselves to work as a united family to strengthen attachments and to exchange experiences. Among the participants were Alvaro Perez and his sisters who received the Pilgrim MTA for Colombia from the hands of John Pozzobon. The closing Holy Mass took place in the Schoenstatt Shrine in Pereira, "Mary, Mother of the poor". Father Sidney Fones was the main celebrant, Fathers

Humberto Salgado and Francisco Basañez were concelebrating.

Nueva Helvecia, Uruguay

The Vallendor’s , founders of Schoenstatt in Argentina, had a great surprise when on the first day of their vacation, they visited the old Church in Colonia of Sacramento, Uruguay, and there, they found a brochure with the picture of the MTA inviting the people to celebrate the 91 years of the Covenant of Love , the 62 years of the first daughter Shrine and the 20 years of the Campaign in Nueva Helvcia on October 16th. They had never been in this place until that day and thinking that it was very far, they gave up on the idea of ever going – until they were told at the hotel that it was only an hour away. On the following day, October 13th , they made a spontaneous visit to the Shrine and at that time, they decided to attend the upcoming celebrations on the 16th. "It was the Blessed Mother’s gift to us", said Odette Vallendor. "Many people from the area participated and also from far away places, there was a beautiful Mass in the morning and another one, with the bishop in the afternoon, and there was also a cantata by the Boys’ Youth. But what impressed us the most was the Illuminated Rosary – each Hail Mary was symbolized with a rose, a candle, and a Pilgrim MTA! A student carried the cross; each decade was prayed by a different group– the Mothers’ Branch, the students, the missionaries of the Campaign, the Family Work, and by the Schoenstatt Youth. It was very impressive. Then, to conclude the celebration, a group called the "joyful alpines", presented Swiss dances. They were dressed in the traditional costumes from that country. What a beautiful way to celebrate the Covenant of Love!"
