COSTA RICA, Gonzalo Vega. "A gift from heaven", that is what was said about an email that arrived from Schoenstatt informing them that they were praying in the Original Shrine for Schoenstatt in Central America and for the victims of the flooding, the landslides, earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. " As for El Salvador, in reality for all of Central America the situation has been very tense, especially in Honduras, Guatemala and Costa Rica, and it has been even worse in southern Mexico because of the constant and intense rains…but the Blessed Mother has been at the side of her Schoenstatt children’s since we are all right…" they answered.

On Friday the 7th of October, the Feast of the Queen of the Rosary, Father Guillermo Muzquiz, a Schoenstatt Father from Mexico, departed for El Salvador. He had been in Costa Rica for 10 days. Early Saturday he told the leaders from Costa Rica that things were all right. "That is to say, he ‘officially’ confirmed that the Blessed Mother is present and taking care of her children in Central America", they commented.

Covenant of Love in Costa Rica

Three weeks ago Sister Petra, from Milwaukee, USA, was with the Schoenstatt Family: this was an extraordinary event in a country where there are no Schoenstatt Sisters or Fathers, nor are there any members of federation or institutes.

On Sunday the 2nd of October, many Covenant of Loves were sealed: seven ladies from the third group of the Mothers’ Branch, two men from the Professional Branch, seven girls from the Girls’ Youth (received the Veil of Mary), a couple from the fifth Couples’ Group, and a missionary of the Schoenstatt Rosary Campaign.

The Covenant of Love ceremony was held during the Holy Mass that was celebrated at noon. One of the girls from the Girls’ Youth is the daughter of the director of the main television newscast of Costa Rica. Photos were taken of their daughter who had a spectacular smile…Two little girls, 2 months old, were baptized, they were born to parents of the seventh Couples’ Group.

The Schoenstatt Family in Costa Rica is growing and growing…In February Father Mariano Irureta, Provincial Superior of the Schoenstatt Fathers of Chile, was here. In the conversations, the conviction was manifested that the Blessed Mother has many plans for Costa Rica But it was very clear that more leaders are needed since there is the possibility to start three more Couples’ Groups and this has not materialized because of lack of leaders. The third Boys’ Group and the second one for Professional Women have started.

Is it a land that will become the Blessed Mother's "homeland"?

The dream of having a Shrine in Central America is still alive! The Schoenstatt Family of Costa Rica has its eye on some land that Father Guillermo was able to see and he liked it. There are 2.5 hectares, with a creek in the middle, it has 2 gigantic trees, it is well located and it has a lot of birds chirping!

They are very simply asking the international Family and especially those who have the privilege of visiting the Original Shrine, to pray for a clear sign that this is the land the Blessed Mother wants to build her first Shrine. They also ask for prayers of thanksgiving to the Blessed Mother because "her triumphal carriage" is following its path in Costa Rica!
