PARAGUAY, rbe/mfk. Emerson wants to build homes for the poor. He has such big dreams, he desires to transform his Paraguay…But for now his biggest and most concrete dream is…to return to school in March, when a new school year begins in his country. Emerson was one of the beneficiaries for the Scholastic Scholarship since the year 2002 until the present time. Now "Dequeni" is again preparing for the campaign: . "A THOUSAND WINGS, A THOUSAND CHILDREN, A THOUSAND SCHOLARSHIPS, for the beginning of the year 2006 so that a thousand children can again continue with their studies, and others can be added. for example. Emerson.

Emerson Ramon Galeano Risaldi, is 7 years old, he is the son of Norma and of Juan, both sell cosmetics door to door. Emerson has 8 siblings, the oldest is 13 years old and she works as a babysitter and the youngest is only 1 year old; two others 9 and 10 years old work washing cars in downtown Asuncion, he and the other two little brothers attend Dequeni every day, they live in J. Augusto Saldivar, Route 1, Km. 23.

Emerson is a young boy who is a little timid, but he smiles a lot, he looks like a five year old, but this is not an obstacle for him to participate in the most difficult games of skill in the little park of the main House of the Foundation, where he shares the afternoon with children his age.

Last year Emerson was the best student in the 2nd grade of Immaculate Conception School in his community, the teachers say that he is a very dedicated child, his desire to learn helped him to overcome a series of difficulties that he had at the beginning of the year.

Every night he reviews the lessons of that day

Emerson says that every night before going to bed he reviews the lesson of the day so that he will not forget it, he likes to paint and to draw, but above all to create: with bricks and a little bit of sand he lets his imagination fly in the patio of his home. Emerson hopes that his parents will have steady and stable employment, he wants to continue studying to become an engineer and to build homes for the poor. In spite of his young age he recognizes the basic needs of his companions in school and the lack of housing. Emerson has attended Dequeni since May 2003. He was also one of the children who received a scholastic scholarship that allowed him to participate in the classes since 2002.

Struggle against poverty

The campaign for the scholarships of solidarity officially begins on Thursday the 6th of October and it will last until the 31st of January 2006. "We are making a small change in the amount to be donated, the investment is 280,000 Guaranies, that would be $47.00 dollars or 37 Euros. We want to again award 1000 Scholarships and this will only be possible with the solidarity of everyone", says Raquel Bertran, of the Dequeni Foundation. "I hope that more hearts in solidarity will be added to this campaign for these children of Paraguay who hope that they will be given this opportunity…" $47.00 dollars or 37 Euros are enough to pay for the scholastic year (clothes, school supplies, tuition); and it will decide if Emerson can return to school in March, and that someday he may be able to build homes for the poor. Dequeni is a private non-profit institution, founded in Paraguay in 1985 by some young boys of the Schoenstatt Movement, for the purpose of struggling against poverty through programs that promote human development of children, families and communities of limited resources so that through self-education they may better their way of life. Another objective is to develop and stimulate the Culture of Solidarity, where everyone in their area of influence can be protagonists in the social development of the country.

Dequeni places its work under the protection of the Blessed Mother:

Dearest Blessed Mother:

Shelter us in your sacred heart of a Mother, through your infinite power and great kindness we pray that you will strengthen new faith, illuminate our hearts and make our will firm in building Dequeni, your apostolic work , , every day. May the children and the people who receive benefits, be integrated in love, and may they be converted into faithful collaborators of the Nation of God. Desiring that Dequeni will always continue to grow, we offer you this humble work as a contribution to the Capital of Grace. Amen.

Emerson is looking at you and asking: "Will you help me so that someday I will be able to build homes for the poor?"
