Thousands of youth are on the way to Cologne…and Schoenstatt waits for them there with the Shrine, in search of footsteps, catequesis, Oasis and much more |
WYD –COLOGNE, mfk..Recalling that "thousands o f youth are ready to depart or are already on the way to Cologne" to participate in World Youth Day, which has as a theme <<We have come to adore him>>, the Pope affirmed that "you could say that all the Church is spiritually motivated to live this extraordinary event, contemplating on the Magi as excellent models in search of Christ, before whom they knelt in adoration". He said this at Castegandolfo, in the Angelus last Sunday. But what does adoration mean? Is it perhaps an attitude from a past time, without meaning for contemporary man? Asked Benedict XVI. "No!", he said recalling that "a well known prayer, that many pray in the morning and at night begins precisely with these words: <I adore you, my God, I love you with all my heart…>.At dawn and at sunset, the believers renews his<<adoration>>each day, it is the recognition of the presence of God, Creator and Lord of the universe". He explained that, "It is a recognition full of gratitude, that comes from the deepest recesses of the heart and covers all the being, because only by adoring and loving God above all things can man fulfill himself completely". Adoration of God of the altar, is what is seen in the Church "Mary in Kupergasse, chosen as one of the spiritual centers during WYD. The Schoenstatt Fathers, the Sisters of Mary, the members of the different Schoenstatt communities pray there. They pray with and for the youth, and they are available for conversation or spiritual consultation when asked. To adore God who manifests himself in life: this will be in the center of encounters "Schoenstatt live" in the Church of the Holy Trinity, through the "search of footprints", that in the context of the youth is called "Text messages sent by God. But the search for footprints will not only be offered as part of the program: it wants to provide an experience of a culture of life in the experience of a personal closeness of a living God. This style is concretely marked by the faith in which God is behind everything, in the search of God, in relying on God, in the adoration of God in the hearts of those who arrive at the Oasis or contribute their charisma on the open stages; it is in the adoration of God in the things and in those events that destroy all the plans; it is in the adoration of God in the Eucharist and in the structure of the catechesis…in a word: in living the Covenant with God the Father, that Covenant that Father Kentenich proclaimed in the year 1966 a few blocks from this place, in the Schoenstatt Shrine. The catequesis on Friday with Monsignor Zollitsch will probably will be transmitted by Radio Horeb, and as for the rest there are already many requests from the media for interviews and reports, is the God of history speaking here? A place of grace for WYDWho more than Mary can accompany us in this demanding itinerary of sanctity? Who more than She can teach us to adore Christ?" said the Holy Father, who concluded asking that "She be the one who especially helps the new generations to recognize in Christ the true face of God, to adore him, love him and to serve him with complete dedication". It has impressed many, especially the ecclesial Movements that Schoenstatt has prepared a place of grace for WYD in Cologne. Gabi Zeche, leader for the press in "Youth 2000" has already taken note of the address. The Focalare Movement also has much interest in this. A Shrine that was built just a few meters from ruins of the Shrine of the MTA that was in the side chapel of Elendskirche, a Shrine in which the Founder of Schoenstatt proclaimed the Covenant of Love with God the Father, A shrine like this is something very special. During the blessing of the altar of the MTA, on that 14th of October of 1934, Father Kentenich also said something about the black Madonna of Kupfergasse: It should not be substituted, rather it should "continue working as it has until now", but from here she wants and she should act as the great educator of the people and as the guide in the present time". And he spoke on a global scale at the moment of the blessing of the altar of the MTA: "We know we are in close contact with all the Schoenstatters and the friends of Schoenstatt of all the world…We do not want to think only about ourselves anymore, our hearts should be as large as the present day needs of the Church". And the prayer that he sent from Dachau when he found out about the destruction of this Shrine, can by very real in these days of preparation for WYD: "The Blessed Mother awaits silently and worried A desperate request from the WYD Office in CologneTension grows in the WYD office in Cologne. There is only one week left for WYD and we still need close to 120 persons who will help in the community shelters. There are almost 3,000 youth in Schoenstatt right now. They are all motivated about WYD. One of the Schoenstatt volunteers makes a daring proposal and a call is received: Is there anyone in the Schoenstatt Movement or in the youth that can contribute to the Capital of Grace by offering to help with this task? We need to know by August 12th. If we do not find people to work in the community shelters, they will not be opened and some 3,000 or more youth will not have a place to stay..But Schoenstatt is still here…Can something be done?
