Overcome by sorrow, the Pope retired to his private chapel to pray. News which, in the midst of the horror that the bombing in London has caused, gives joy. We have a Pope who feels human suffering…When in the avalanche of daily news the suffering of the people does not move our hearts, when sometimes our worries and plans keep us from experiencing human suffering, when for lack of interest in what is happening outside our own world we ignore our neighbor’s suffering, we are glad to know that there is someone who is overcome with pain and he goes to pray.

Benedict XVI has learned with "immense sorrow" the news about the terrorist attacks that took place in London – and while he deplores these "barbaric acts against humanity", he petitions the Archbishop of this capital, Cardinal Murphy O’Connor, via a telegram, to manifest to the families of the death victims and to the wounded that he shares their sorrow, asking the Lord for the consolation that only he can give, in circumstances such as these.

From the Original Shrine here in Schoenstatt and surely in all our Shrines in the whole world, the Schoenstatt Family unites in prayer for the dead and wounded as a result of the atrocious attack in London, praying also for their families, doctors, nurses, police, and all who are suffering during this painful situation..

During the early hours of July 7th, emails have already arrived from Mexico and United

States, Scotland, Argentina, Peru, and Brazil, with promises to pray for the victims. A Schoenstatt Father from Scotland wrote that his brother works as a policeman in Geneagles,

at the G8 Summit, he usually works in the outskirts of London. This information places a name and face to the anxiety, fear, and the worry.

During the next Illuminated Rosary a rose will be offered for the victims of London. May human suffering touch us.
