ARGENTINA, Tita Rios. The 23rd Pilgrimage of the People from the wayside shrine in Hasenkamp to the Shrine in La Loma in Parana, is being prepared with much enthusiasm. Last year, the pilgrimage had to stop in the middle of the pilgrimage because of a big storm, but at this moment they are committing to another pilgrimage. On July 9th,a parish mission started in Hasenkamp in preparation for the pilgrimage of the people.

It began in the year 1983 as a "gift of love to the Blessed Mother" by two young men from Hasenkamp, who belonged to the Schoenstatt Apostolic Movement. (Jorge Quiroz and Amelio Rodriguez). During that time they were preparing to seal their Covenant of Love with Her and they wanted to demonstrate how much they loved her and how seriously they were taking her love by making the long pilgrimage (90 km.) from their town to the Shrine. "How many times in the history of the world has the smallest and most insignificant given rise to the biggest" (Father Joseph Kentenich). Through the years it was shown how Divine Providence began to demonstrate that it had special plans for this manifestation of faith.

The young men were the start of this pilgrimage with their generous giving of self. The Schoenstatt Shrine, commonly called the "Shrine of the Hill" because it is built on the hills that surround the Parana river on the coast between rivers,is the destiny of this pilgrimage.

United with all Movements

About 50 missionaries now travel the city of Hasenkamp carrying the Pilgrim MTA. A beautiful sign of unity that the Blessed Mother has accomplished: all the existing movements in the parish participate. Among them: the Legion of Mary, Marriage Encounter, Schoenstatt, Charismatics, Cursillistas, and also Caritas..

They visit the families taking a letter from their pastor, Father Carlos Alberto Gimeno, who has placed himself at their service. They also contribute their prayers to the Capital of Grace.

No one was excluded, the Blessed Mother needs everyone, no matter the age, from the youngest to the oldest, everything is a contribution so that she can manifest herself and so the XXIII Pilgrimage from Hasenkamp to Parana will be a success. The team that will take care of practical matters is already working.

The preparations have already started in Parana to receive this large group of people.

Monsignor Maulion has taken the initiative by calling on all the organizers to deepen in and to motivate this large pilgrimage of faith. This year, the assessor for the pilgrimage will be Father Diego Rode from the parish of St. Theresa.

"We need much prayer and many instruments to carry forth such an important manifestation of faith", said one of the organizers.

Someday people will go out from the field to unite themselves to this pilgrimage

The desire of one of the first pilgrims has already been accomplished: "someday people will go out from the fields to unite themselves to this pilgrimage." Not only have the laborers of the field united themselves, but little by little, also those in the towns in the interior of the province of Entre Rios, the capital : Parana, and other neighboring provinces. That is why it is called the "Pilgrimage of the People". Furthermore, Schoenstatt wayside shrines are being built in places that the pilgrimage goes through!

Parochial life has been transformed by this: the faithful from the parishes, seminarians, priests and religious, people from the ecclesial movements, everyone offers the best of themselves so that this pilgrimage will be an experience of life of the Church that is on pilgrimage, that a new family is reflected on the thousand of faces that are seen on the way, all united in the same spirit, in the same faith and in the same destiny.

The firemen, (the fire truck with the Auxiliary Shrine leads the pilgrimag), the police, the national guard, nurses, doctors with their ambulances, the water boys, the people who prepare the torches, the different cities and especially those who collaborate with their vehicles and organize the rest stops, those who go out to offer help, the people who prepare the arrival at La Loma, all the people who collaborate materially and spiritually accompanying them all the way with prayer and the hundreds of helpers are like a great net of help that is also on pilgrimage.

Every year on the eve of Mother’s Day, (the third Sunday of October) the Blessed Mother convenes thousands and thousands of pilgrims on the ground of the Wayside Shrine in Hasenkamp, to take them by the and to walk with them during the 26 hours to a new evening…she also does it today!
