SCHOENSTATT, Sr. Hiltraude Burkart. Whoever knows Koblenz and the church of Saint Castor, has also probably heard something about Saint Rizza, a saint from Koblenz. Because of her persistent prayer, this saint was able to walk over the waters of the Rhine to visit a sick person on the other side. Some of the ones who were on the island of Niederwerth that Saturday morning waiting for the boat carrying the World Youth Day Cross and the Icon, might have happily wished that they would be able to do what the very venerated saint was able to do...

Some fifty Schoenstatters, the majority youth from all the world, waited for the boat on the island of Niederwerth. During the night the boat was on its way from Speyer to Cologne, accompanied by four hundred youth.

Time moves slowly when one is waiting...apart from the tugs there was nothing else to see. What impelled a Sister of Mary from South Africa to be on the edge of the Rhine on that morning? "I want to tell our youth from the city of Cabo that I was at the place where the Cross passed close to Schoenstatt". Not many of our youth can come to Schoenstatt or Cologne. This way I will be able to tell about the atmosphere that reigned here" said another Sister from Australia.

Applause, songs, a wave, flags and Schoenstatt handkerchiefs on land and over the water

Finally a passenger ship! It was the much anticipated Enterprise. The poster on the prow could be seen and the people made signals from the upper deck, the boat pauses. The Cross is raised on high in the midst of the youth. On the edge a big poster is raised: "Schoenstatt greets the World Youth Day Cross and Icon". Applause, songs, the wave, flags and Schoenstatt handkerchiefs on land and over the water. The boat moved back almost to the edge.

How great it would have been if by the intercession of Saint Rizza we would be able to walk on the water!...
