NIGERIA, Fr. Johnsonn Nellissery. The Mother Thrice Admirable continues to attract people to herself in the Shrine. The Bishop of Oshogbo Diocese (75 km from Ibadan), the Most Rev. Gabriel Abegurin visited the Blessed Mother in the Shrine on December 14th at the invitation of a few students. He arrived following the Ordination of 64 Deacons at the Major Seminary. After a short time of prayer in the Shrine, the Bishop expressed his joy and readiness to come to the Shrine again whenever he is in Ibadan.

It is noticeable that the Shrine, dedicated on October 23, 2004, is growing into a place of Schoenstatt apostolate. The Shrine is now the centre of many activities. Recently, Fr. Klaus Desch brought a group of young nursing students to the Shrine, for their end of the year retreat. At the Shrine Fr. Klaus gave them talks and celebrating Holy Mass. Fr. Johnson Nellissery celebrated the Holy Mass with two youth groups who want to become involved with the Schoenstatt Youth movement. He also gave a day of recollection for 35 young people of Nigeria Federation of Catholic Students. It is significant that many people, including priests come to pray in the Shrine, and leave their written intentions in the basket for the Capital of Grace.

On December 18th an afternoon of adoration was offered in the Shrine, for the first time, from 3 to 6 o’clock. Some members of the local community joined in the adoration, which was offered as part of the Schoenstatt Family’s contribution to the Church for the Year of Eucharist and is to be part of their monthly 18th celebration.

In December, around John Pozzobon’s 100th birthday, a representative was sent from the Shrine to bring the Pilgrim MTA to Lagos, the capital of Nigeria.
