How do you prepare for the blessing of the Shrine... in Nigeria? The first Schoenstatt Shrine in Nigeria, a sign of hope for Africa |
NIGERIA, mkf. News from Africa these days are news of starvation, wars, AIDS, power struggle, thousands of fugitives, and never-ending tribal conflicts... News from Africa these days are also: a big peace pilgrimage to the Shrine in Bujumbura on August 15, a priest from Tanzania discovering Schoenstatt for his country, a small, dedicated group of young men holding high the flag of the Schoenstatt Pilgrim Mother Campaign in Senegal, a priest from Ghana preparing for his Covenant of Love, the first Pilgrim MTA being brought to Cote d'Ivoire by a dedicated priest from Paraná, Argentina, and ... the first Schoenstatt Shrine in West Africa almost ready... August 15, the youngest novitiate course of the Schoenstatt Fathers in Nigeria sealed their contract with the community - in the shadow of the Shrine, as it was impossible to do so in the Shrine: the recently laid concrete did not allow any steps in the future choir. The earth-moving around the future Shrine is almost done, the plaza is being constructed these days - it will be paved with granite stones. The pamphlets with the invitation has been spread via schoenstatt.de - but, as Father Fred Kistler said, many people still do not even know that the Shrine is being built. "It would be great if many of those who visti schoenstatt.de would help us spread the news," he said. The first greeting and prayer promise just a day after the publication came from Argentina - a special joy for the Schoenstatt Family in Nigeria, as the first Pilgrim MTA picture for Nigeria came from Argentina. How do you prepare for the blessing of the Shrine? This, says Father Klaus Desch, is a question asked many times. "It's a questions I would like to pass on to all those who accompany us these coming weeks!"
