SCHOENSTATT, Fr. Duncan McVicar. How do you bring together a group of enthusiastic young people, the search for suggestions, ideas and dreams, together with good food and a pleasant environment, and lots of information? The answer is easy – organise a "Star Weekend" in Schönstatt! The first "Star Weekend" from 5th-7th March, 2004, organised by the Project Office for the World Youth Day 2005 took place in House Sonneau with forty participants. Young people from all over Germany could take part with representatives from Chile, Switzerland and Eucador.

From the very beginning the "Star Weekend" had a positive atmosphere and developed ist own dynamics. The contribution of our Schoenstatt Youth during the October Conference 2004, the Youth Festival in Schoenstatt and the World Youth Day in Cologne were all discussed and considered with concrete plans of how to move forward together in all these projects.

Hopes and longings about encounter with others, hunger for God and community, the gift of internationality, the hope for a vibrant Church and how to pass on our Schoenstatt charism in a dynamic way, the common "language" of music, our Life’concept and vocation, the power of the message of the Covenant of Love in the original Shrine, and the witness of faith of our Founder were all elements that came together in the one loud and clear message: Schoenstatt is on the way to the World Youth Day 2005! Now it’s our turn to pass on to others what we have lived for ourselves! The "Star Weekend" wasn’t only an opportunity to work and discuss, it was also a chance to spend some time with the Lord and pray for the success of our endeavours.

The "Kentenich-Decision"

The thoughts during Mass in the Original Shrine expressed the longing to live "divided no more", that the inner truth we carry inside should show itself in our lives and choices. The "Kentenich-Decision" is that crucial moment in our lives when we finally decide that we will no longer live as "divided individuals" but as people who live athe unity of what is "inside" with it‘s daily expression "outside". The last day of the "Star Weekend" was marked by Mass in the Adoration Church, prepared and led by the young people themselves. Their thoughts and hopes flowed through the prayers and texts, and choice of music. So what happens now? Let’s get on with the job! Enthusiasm, ideas and determination – we’ve got them already! But still I wonder: Was it a "Star Weekend" or was it a "Super-Star Weekend"?
