"His Mother said to the servants:
‘Do whatever He tells you’ …
Jesus said to them, 'Fill the jars"’.
And they filled them to the brim". (Jn. 2: 5-6)
Rome, March 24, 2004
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
The construction of any Shrine of the Mother Thrice Admirable
of Schoenstatt is founded on deeds of love. These deeds of love
are given in the happy and expectant hope that Mary will descend
and make her home in the small chapel of grace, since "everything
is possible for that he believes." (Mc. 9: 23). In the Founding
Document she tells us, "I love those who love me. Prove first
by your deeds that you really love me. Then it will please me to
dwell in your midst and dispense gifts and graces in abundance."
The Institute of the Schoenstatt Diocesan Priests has taken on
the responsibility for the construction of the shrine that was
promised to our father and founder at the time of his 80th birthday.
However, it is a commitment that, now at the beginning of this
new millennium, must be made by all Schoenstatt members. This is
to be our Shrine, at the site of the future International
Center in Rome, to be dedicated to the "Mother of the Church.")
Jars in all the Shrines...
The Shrine is being built at this particular moment in history.
The Church, called to be a light in a world that we call "globalized",
needs Mary's maternal and educational work. She, "Pedagogue of
the gospel", wants "to distribute - in the material heart
of the Church - abundant gifts and graces." She wants to "dwell" and " make
her home" in Rome, and wants this to depend on our love expressed "in
the contributions to the Capital of Grace."
This love of ours, as at the Wedding at Cana, has to fill the
jars. It will be the moment in which Jesus will perform, for love
of his Mother, the miracle and the "water" of our love, will be
the "wine" of the grace of having a home, of inner transformation
and mission zeal.
We propose today that in every country jars are placed in each
of their Shrines and are used to gather the contributions to the
Capital of Grace. Of these jars (approximately 50 centimeters high)
they will choose one, so that the pilgrims, who take part in the
blessing of the Matri Ecclesiae Shrine, can bring it and
deliver it during the Eucharistic celebration on September 8, 2004,
on behalf of their country.
We make a special petition to the Schoenstatt Family in Milwaukee
in the USA. We would like that the jar that remains inside the
Shrine at Belmonte, is the same one that comes from the exile land.
It will be the way of joining the two places in the context of
the fourth milestone of the families history. Other jars will stay
in different places inside the future house of the International
Center, representing the countries.
The "Capitalaries" are ready
We add the "capitalaries" that, once photocopied or printed, will
be able to be used to assess the Capital of Grace. It would be
a beautiful gift if the countries taking part could bring their
flags in order to surround the Shrine as a visible sign of the
Internationality of the Family.
We wait for them to live through the Feast of the Family of the
Father, in the heart of the Church!
