A call to be Mary - todayReception of novices from Haiti and the Dominican Republic into the Institute of the Schoenstatt Sisters of Mary in La Victoria, Dominican Republic, January 31, 2004 |
REPUBLICA DOMINICA, Hna. M. Taqui. On January 31, 2004, nine novices were received into the Secular Institute of the Schoenstatt Sisters of Mary. Seven of the novices are from the Dominican Republic and two of them from Haiti, a historic first! The celebration was presided by the Apostolic Nuncio.
The novices went in procession to the parish church escorted by members of a group of the Schoenstatt Girls’ Youth, who were carrying lilies. They were immediately followed by twelve priests and by the Bishop of San Pedro de Macorís, all of whom concelebrated holy Mass with the Apostolic Nuncio to the Dominican Republic, his Excellency Timothy Broglio. The Nuncio presided at the celebration of the Eucharist and the reception rite of the novices. The relatives and guests of the novices waited for them in the parish church with great anticipation for the solemn act of reception. The congregation broke into a loud applause as they saw the novices return to the church dressed in the dress of the Sisters of Mary. Relatives, friends, members of the Schoenstatt Movement, and neighbors of La Victoria all joined together, approximately 1,000 people, to congratulate and greet the new Sisters of Mary.
