SCHOENSTATT, pos. The General Chapter of the Schoenstatt Fathers in the morning of August 13, 2003, elected a new Superior General who will lead the international community for the coming 12 years. Father Heinrich Walter, so far Provincial Superior of the Sion Province (Germany, India, Czech Republic, Austria, England), succeeds Father Michael Marmann whose term ended with the General Chapter. As Superior General of the Schoenstatt Fathers, Fr. Heinrich Walter will also be Chairperson of the General Presidium of the International Schoenstatt Work.

Father Heinrich Walter, born June 14, 1954, ordained to the priesthood on July 6, 1985, before being elected provincial worked in the Schoenstatt Boys' Youth. As President of the of the National Council of Germany, during the past years he gave valuable input to the German Schoenstatt Movement, and worked especially in view of the co-operation with the New Ecclesial Movements.

The General Chapter of the Schoenstatt Fathers with 42 Fathers from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Germany, India, Mexico, Nigeria, Paraguay, Poland, Portugal, Switzerland, Spain, South Africa and USA, will last until end August; it began August 3. During this week, the other members of the General Council will be elected by the Chapter.

The General Chapter of the Schoenstatt Fathers has been accompanied by the prayer and capital of grace of many Schoenstatt communities and individuals in several countries. The new Superior General can count with a continued support, as well as the future members of the General Council.
