NIGERIA, Fr. Klaus Desch. On May 18, the young and growing Schoenstatt in Nigeria for the first time had time the celebration of the covenant day within the walls of the future Shrine at the Formation House of the Schoenstatt Fathers in Ibadan. The day was especially marked by the covenant of love of six candidates who joined the community of the Schoenstatt Fathers in August last year.

After Holy Mass they went to the site of the Shrine at Ijokodo. Thecelebration started at the little way-side shrine from where we walked singing to the Shrine site. Since the place is still under construction, everyone felt like the first founding generation who asked the Blessed Mother to establish her throne of grace in the little chapel in Schoenstatt. This time we ask her to do the same for us here in Nigeria. As a sign for their covenant of love the students received the little unity-cross which they are wearing when they go for lectures or apostolic activities.

The "Lights of the Shrine"

At the end the "Lights of the Shrine", the name by which the youngest group wants to be known, Lambert Dioka, Tony Famave, Herbert Opara, Basil Ugorji, Charles Ozioko, Angelbert Chikere, Kenneth Onyekwere, and Dominic Anozie posed with Brothers Basil, their guardian angel, and Charles, the prefect of the Philosophy House, for the photograph.

Meanwhile the walls of the Shrine are 2.5 mtrs high and are ready for the casting of the arches above the windows, the entrance and the sanctuary.
