April 28, 2003ITALY, Castelgandolfo: Marian Congress of the Focolar MovementThe Focolar Movement has organized a "Marian Congress", April 28 -30, in their International Center at Castelgandolfo. The idea to realize this congress was inspired by John Paul II's Apostolic Letter about the Holy Rosary. On the day when the Document was published, Chiara Lubich, the foundress of the Focolare Movement, was present; the Holy Father entrusted to her and her Movement to assume a special responsibility for the message of this Document, and the Year of the Rosary. One of the responses, maybe that with the strongest impact, is the organization of this Congress. The sentence that inspires the Congress is: "Contemplate Christ with the eyes of Mary". There will be two "round table" presentations with participants from various representatives of the church, like founders and responsible leaders of the Ecclesial Movements. Participation was offered also to the Islam, and a Muslim theologican will give a statement. Cardinals and bishops will preside over the Masses and liturgical celebrations. Schoenstatt will contribute with the theme: "What does Mary mean to your Movement?"
April 30/May 1SCHOENSTATT: May OpeningIn Schoenstatt, as in many other marian places of pilgrimage, in parrishes and religious centres of the countries, where May is celebrated as month of Mary, May Opening processions and celebrations will take place. In Schoenstatt, a prayer service is held in the Pilgrims' Church, followed by a candle light procession to the Original Shrine. The theme, inspired by the war in Iraq and the desperate situation in so many countries and areas of life, is: "Pray for us, Mary, now…" In May, there will be an abundance of events taking place in Schoenstatt, like concerts, pilgrimages, Illumined Rosary, Mothers' Day program, "Multicolor Weekend" for young families and youth… May 10, 2003SCHOENSTATT: OrdinationCardinal Karl Lehmann of Mainz, President of the German Episcopal Conference, will preside over the ordination of Thomas Jochheim, Community of the Schoenstatt Fathers.
