Encounter of Ecclesiastical Movements in Schoenstatt - 21st Epiphany Conference

Since 1980, the Epiphany Conference has been held in Schoenstatt as an encounter of Ecclesial Movements and groups on an ecumenical basis, picking up what was a matter of concern both for Vincent Pallotti and Fr. Kentenich, a deepening solidarity towards a more effective apostolic testimony. Pallottine Father Dr. Paul Rheinbay and Schoenstatt Fathers Dr. Lothar Penners and René Klaus are in charge. This year's subject is "In the Heart of God – In the Heart of the City." For most of the people, their habitat is the city. The "global village" is in fact a global city. The "new city," the "holy city," is an inspirational concept in several of the Ecclesial

Movements. Talks and sharing from communities and individuals on the various aspects of the theme are scheduled for the three days of the conference; a festive Holy Mass in the Adoration Church on January 7 will conclude the meeting.

Crowning of the Blessed Mother as Queen of Zimbabwe

During the October Weekend 2000 of the Zimbabwe Schoenstatt Family it was decided that they wanted to crown Mary, the Mother Thrice Admirable, as "Queen and Mother of Zimbabwe." This was in response to the serious situation the people of Zimbabwe find themselves in which is affecting their lives so terribly. The problems are not only historical, political, and economical, but they also have one of the highest rates of HIV/ AIDS in the world with a very weak health system to deal with it. Their resolution: "We want to crown our MTA, as Fr. Kentenich did in Dachau, with complete confidence that she will take charge. She will help us, guide us, intercede for us as our Mother. We chose January 20 especially because it is such an important turning point in Schoenstatt's history when Fr. Kentenich chose to go to Dachau after refusing a medical examination which could have set him free on medical grounds."

The crowning will take place at a special Holy Mass in the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, 4th Street, Harare. Fr. McKenna was asked to celebrate the mass. He has always placed the actual crown on the MTA picture at all the previous Queen of Africa crownings on the 31st of May (since 1980). Priests from the different parishes will be invited to join in. Many people are praying the novena in preparation, not only in Zimbabwe but in other countries as well. The crowning will also be celebrated in Bulayawo, the second largest city of the country, by request of the Archbishop's office there. The date will be January 27, and the Schoenstatt members from Harare are invited to share something "from the heart" about Schoenstatt. The Schoenstatt family will also include the deep longing they have for a Shrine of their own, from where the MTA can work. Marlene Peter said, "The particular graces that come from our Schoenstatt shrines are needed so much here so that our land may be healed and hope restored. We have our altar-Shrine in the home of our leading couple, Pat and Stella Arnold, here in Harare, the capital city. They have offered one of their bedrooms to be used as a shrine. It is very small with just two benches along the walls but the many hours spent there over the years have made it a special, holy place. But there is a deep longing for a daughter Shrine in Zimbabwe."
