NIGERIA, Okpala Michael I. • The priesthood is a gift from God to the Church and the world. Through the ministry of the priesthood, the sacrifice of Christ, and Christ himself, is made present in the sacred Body and Blood of Christ, God meets humanity in its utter miserableness, and, humanity is drawn up into the mercy of God. Heaven thus meets earth, and, earth is led heavenwards. This is the ministry that our four brothers have undertaken today. — Anointed with the Holy Spirit On this day, 25 MayRead More
NIGERIA, Agaptus Ihediuba /Maria Fischer • The Schoenstatt Movement in Nigeria is young and small – but very apostolic. Students of the Schoenstatt Fathers visited a prison, Schoenstatt Youth reached out to an orphanage, and spiritual offers for young people were but a few of the apostolic works serving people in this West African country.— January 18th was a special Covenant Day. As the International Schoenstatt Youth gathered in Costa Rica in preparation for World Youth Day, all of the students of the Schoenstatt Fathers, together with the Rector, Fr.Read More
NIGERIA, Agaptus Ihediuba /Maria Fischer • In a spirit of celebration, another historical event is soon to be made in the Schoenstatt Fathers’ community in Nigeria. This historical event will be brought to completion on 25 May 2019 as the Schoenstatt Fathers in Nigeria prepare for the ordination of four Deacons: Jude Eze, John Iyoke, Christian Dansuma and Patrick Ugwoke, from the ‘Apostles of the covenant of Love’ Course will be ordained priests on that day. Shortly after their deaconate ordination, the four left for Paraguay, where they experienced aRead More
BRAZIL, Sueli Vilarinho • On 27 March the Schoenstatt Family in Jaraguá and the community of the Secular Institute of Schoenstatt Fathers in Brazil bade farewell to Fr. Roberto Josef Ostheirmer, who entered the community in Brazil 1966. His wake took place at the Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Parish, where he served as parish priest, and was buried in the Fathers’ cemetery next to the Sion Shrine in Jaraguá, the land for which he helped to purchase and build the shrine in 1969.— A brief biography He wasRead More
ARGENTINA, Father Alberto Eronti • Twenty-five years ago, on Sunday, February 27th, 1994, the Shrine, Zion of the Father, was blessed in Florencio Varela, Buenos Aires.  Bishop Claudio Giménez Medina, then the auxiliary bishop of Asunción, Paraguay, blessed it.  After years of spiritual preparation, the Regional Schoenstatt Fathers had decided to build the Shrine, the source of grace, next to their Regional House. — For the blessing, Fathers were present from many countries:  Argentina, Germany, Brazil, Chile, Spain and Paraguay, also present were priests from the local diocese.   We hadRead More
SCHOENSTATT, Maria Fischer • It was one of the stormiest days in this stormy month of March, the day when Fr Dr Michael Marmann was buried. Much was said in those two hours while the storm raged around the towers of the Church of the Blessed Trinity. His confreres and successors as Superior General of the Schoenstatt Fathers, his friends from “Together for Europe”, Schoenstatt members with whom he started in Regensburg, had much to say in those two hours, and at the end his own words resounded, which FrRead More

“Yes, forever.”

NIGERIA, Michael Okpala • The Contract-Consecration is the form of commitment specific to the Schoenstatt Secular Institutes. Daring to say yes to a divine call is quite daunting because of its demands. However it is even more daunting to say this yes forever. On 20 September 2018 four members of the course, Apostles of the Covenant of Love, who have since been ordained deacons, sealed their perpetual commitment as members of the Schoenstatt Fathers’ community. On the same day, three members of the Stella Sion course sealed their temporary commitmentRead More
SPAIN, Juan Zaforas • On 3 November 2018, a young man was ordained as a priest in Pozuelo Schoenstatt Shrine. I have known this young man since he was a boy because he was my son’s friend son who we always called Edu and is now Fr. Eduardo. —   Cardinal D. Carlos Osoro ordained him, and in his very personal homily, he made him see what is now expected of him, to be transparent in Jesus Christ for all men/women, and he insisted on the all without looking atRead More
NIGERIA, Michael Okpala • The novitiate is a very decisive and important aspect of the Secular Institute of the Schoenstatt Fathers’ formation for the priesthood. This is where an individual, together with his course brothers, is introduced into the life and ideals of the community, forms a course, and learns to work and grow with his other brothers as a course. This particular novitiate that began in Nigeria is comprised of ten novices, accompanied by the novice master, Fr. Herbert Opara. —   Embodying and harnessing openness On 20 SeptemberRead More
NIGERIA, Michael Okpala • All roads led to the Schoenstatt Fathers Community at Ijokodo, Ibadan, Nigeria, on the 22nd of September 2018 as four members of the course, Apostles of the Covenant of Love, were raised to the transitional diaconate. This diaconate ordination is a precursor to their priestly ordination, which is slated to be in May 2019. In 2019, the Nigerian Community will be celebrating fifteen years of the Shrine in Nigeria. This same priestly ordination in 2019 will bring the number of Nigerian Schoenstatt Fathers to twenty-nine.  “As youRead More
