PARAGUAY, Rosa Ruiz Díaz and María Fischer • “Thank you, Holy Father” is the song that has been chosen as the official hymn for Pope Francis’ visit to Paraguay on July 10-12. The hymn was chosen on May 9, during the celebration organized by the Paraguayan Episcopal Conference. The song competed along with eighty that were proposed. The Sub-commission of Sacred Music of the Episcopal Conference was in charge of selecting the subject. Christían Aramendia wrote the lyrics and Néstor Benítez composed the melody along with José Gauto and FernandoRead More
EUROPE, by Miguel Ángel Rubio, Spain • The European Forum of Families was held in Schoenstatt on May 8, 9, 10. Eight countries participated in this edition: Germany, Austria, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Switzerland (this year’s organizing country), Poland, Croatia and Spain. The Forum was held in the Family House a tradition that has been maintained since the beginning of the Forum. Italy, France, Portugal, Russia, Scotland and England were missed; these countries had participated in previous years, but this year they were not able to attend due to differentRead More
Today Fr Leonhard Erhard, retired parish priest and member of the Priests’ Federation, who is working at the Schoenstatt Centre in Memholz, Germany, will answer these questions. “As an end-of-range model with some mobility, who is just about able not to stand in the way of active life, I no longer fit completely into the optimistic Jubilee spirit of a new start. When they look back at the answers offered until now, people could arrive at the idea that a photo from Granny’s album has got lost.” That was howRead More
PARAGUAY, María Fischer • We were almost leaving, bidding farewell once again to this young and a struggling mother, who can barely speak Spanish, but at least she understands our language better than we understand her Guaraní. We understood the pride and gratitude of her gestures when she showed us her garden, her plants, and above all her little house, which is very small but clean and painted a light turquoise. While her daughter, Luz, a timid little girl, with difficulty moving her hands and feet, simply smiled and lookedRead More
By Maria Fischer from Encarnación • The entire city of Encarnación, the “pearl of the south,” is celebrating. Posters, banners with the country’s and the Church’s colors are everywhere, the cathedral illuminated, a serenade by well-known artists: it is the eve of the great feast for the 400th anniversary of the founding of Encarnación, the city which bears the name of the great event which the entire universal Church celebrates on March 25th – the Incarnation of the Divine Word in the womb of Mary. “The Incarnation which we celebrateRead More
Just as in former years, the Way of the Cross was held by the Selva Cándida in the deanery on the grounds of the Schoenstatt Center in Belmonte, as part of Pope Francis’ call for 24 hours with the Lord. It began in the shrine, and after traveling throughout the grounds for the thirteen stations, the Way of the Cross’ 14th station ended in front of Santa Gemma Church. The cross and the shrine shone in the darkness of the Roman Spring night showing the way to God’s pilgrim people.Read More
by Leti and Martín Pereira, Paraguay It’s in the small everyday things that the Blessed Mother gifts us with the greatest blessings, or as João Pozzobon use to say: “Mother takes care of everything.” We are Leti and Martín and we have been married for almost eight years. We live in Asunción and are parents to Mariana, the girl with mandarins for the Pope and who is about to turn five, and Juan Martín who is 11 months old. We are Schoenstatt Pilgrim Mother Campaign missionaries and belong to theRead More
mda. “With pain, with great pain…” remarked Pope Francis during the Angelus on Sunday 15 March, “I learned about today’s terrorist attacks against two churches in Lahore in Pakistan that resulted in many deaths and injuries. These are Christian churches. Christians are being persecuted. Our brothers are spilling their blood just because they are Christians. Meanwhile, be assured of my prayers for the victims and their families. I ask the Lord, the source of all good, for the gift of peace and harmony for that country, and that this persecutionRead More
“Pope Francis looks ahead and calls for a Church that sets out, because “God’s word constantly shows us how God challenges those who believe in him ‘to go forth’” (EG20). Those who only look back and want to preserve it, will lose the future. That is why our Holy Father urges us “to move from a pastoral ministry of mere conservation to a decidedly missionary pastoral ministry”.” Archbishop Emeritus Robert Zollitsch from Freiburg, and Head of the German Bishops’ Conference up until 2013, chose “Evangelii Gaudium” as the theme forRead More
The value and importance of grandparents in the family was the theme of Pope Francis' catechesis at last Wednesday's general audience in St. Peters Square. First of all, Pope Francis said that he identified with the elderly because he is the same age as them. "When I was in the Philippines," he said jokingly, "the Filipino people greeted me, saying: 'Lolo Kiko,' – that is, Grandfather Francis," and emphasized that even though society has a tendency of casting aside the elderly, God doesn't do this. On the contrary, he callsRead More
