May at the Original Shrine

ORIGINAL SHRINE, Fr. Pablo Pol/mf •

In many countries, especially in the northern hemisphere where it is springtime, May is celebrated as “Mary’s month”. For this reason, a more extensive schedule of prayers and celebrations in the Original Shrine is being announced. The most interesting thing for the international community – beyond the Masses that follow in their already established schedule – is the prayer of the rosary every day at 7:00 p.m., in different languages. Everything, of course, is online. We already know that online is no less real than in person. —

In his letter to the faithful throughout the world, the Holy Father Francis recalls the praying of the rosary as a custom of the month of May:

It is traditional in this month to pray the Rosary at home within the family. The restrictions of the pandemic have made us come to appreciate all the more this “family” aspect, also from a spiritual point of view.

For this reason, I want to encourage everyone to rediscover the beauty of praying the Rosary at home in the month of May. This can be done either as a group or individually; you can decide according to your own situations, making the most of both opportunities. The key to doing this is always simplicity, and it is easy also on the internet to find good models of prayers to follow.

Every day at 7:00 p.m., different people pray the rosary in Spanish, Polish, English, German, Portuguese and French.

On April 30th at 8:00 p.m. there will be an opening of the month of May (German), on May 2nd from 6:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 3rd, Eucharistic Adoration and prayer for vocations, on May 18th at 7:30 p.m. renewal of the Covenant of Love (German Movement), and from Friday, May 22nd at 8:00 p.m., a Pentecost Novena (German Movement).

The Masses will continue at least until May 31st, the anniversary of the third milestone in Schoenstatt history which this year falls on Pentecost Sunday, with the established schedule: at 8:00 a.m. (9:00 a.m. on Sundays) in German, at 5:00 p.m. in Spanish (Tuesdays in English) and on Sundays at 3:30 p.m. in Portuguese.

There are many virtual pilgrims to the Original Shrine, especially for the Masses: “I try to see the Mass in the Original Shrine daily and the rosary on Tuesdays and Saturdays,” says Ana Aristi, from Bragado, Argentina. Olga Sauter, from Costa Rica, says: “During the week, sometimes I follow the Mass in the Original Shrine and I love it.

Blessed month of May to everyone!
