Building Family

URUGUAY, Juan Andrés Nopitsch •

“Family Day”, which is celebrated annually at Providencia Educational Center in Montevideo, is an activity intended for enjoyment, to get to know each other, and to get families to participate in the little ones’ educational process.
“The beautiful thing about this celebration is that it was possible thanks to the great effort of the families. They organized every detail. We only accompanied and organized a little,” Damián Restuccia, the school psychologist, related. “We were very happy with everything that was accomplished.”

This year the Family Day was organized by a commission of families from three educational programs: the Children’s Club, School and Youth Center, accompanied by the psychosocial team. This commission met for several weeks before to define the celebration’s structure, the games, lunch logistics, and to prepare every activity.

A family celebration

The gathering began at 10:00 a.m. although since early morning, there had been activity at Providence. The families prepared the bases for the games, where family soccer could be played, Ping Pong, a throwing challenge, and even singing out of tune at karaoke. At noon, a large table was set in the patio for sharing lunch with food everyone brought and like the “icing on the cake” we had a presentation of parodies by Aristophanes, who entertained us with songs and games.

“Family Day was much more than a day,” Damián concluded. “It was something very beautiful in seeing the atmosphere of gratitude. The families dedicated time and effort…and they did it joyfully. It was also beautiful to see the educators with their respective families; this made it a very authentic family celebration.”

Undoubtedly, this experience will be repeated year after year. The Providencia family has much to celebrate and to share!
