Movie “Three Religious Rebels” in Spain

ACIpress •

A group of youths of the Madrid (Spain) Schoenstatt Movement has taken the life of “Three Religious Rebels” to the big screen; it is a novel that relates the renewal of the Cistercian Order on behalf of Saints Roberto de Molesmes, Alberico and Esteban who struggled to recuperate the poverty, simplicity and austerity of early monastic time, confronting misunderstanding from the other the monasteries.

The movie is an adaptation of the book with the same title by M. Rayond, and in it the director, Aleix Forcada, affirms that it began as a short project for university and ended up being a full-fledged production.

The film was shot in the medieval monastery of Santa María de Huerta in Soria (Spain) that currently has a Cistercian community.

These Schoenstatt youths have dedicated four years to shoot and edit the movie that has helped them encounter God. For this reason, the director affirms that the message of the film, despite being based on the 12th Century is still relevant “because it speaks to us of eternal values such as constancy, perseverance, trust, humility, effort, courage… Values do not understand ideologies, or distinctions, they are for everyone.”

Moreover he stresses that it has a special message for youths since it proposes to “awaken them from the toxic anesthesia of fleeting things, of the “here and now.” Things in life take time and nothing comes without effort.”

Forcada also pointed out that “the whole process of filming has been an experience of God. I cannot recall a concrete moment…it was simply the fact of being able to carry this out since it is a clear demonstration of the presence of God.”

The entire production and filming was made possible from small donations. “Someone who taught us how to organize the feature shots, someone who gave us free lighting equipment, the community of monks, who welcomed us with so much affection, and the people who gave us their time to help us,” he points out.

Moreover this youth explains that his desire for the public who sees this movie is that “the people will leave the movie in a reflective mood, independently of the quality of the film and if one is a believer or not,” because according to what he affirms, it is about a “…movie that speaks of how to face life, and I believe that each person will get a different message: to make an effort, not to be mediocre, to trust that God takes care of you, that nothing is impossible, to be constant, to have patience, to be humble.”
