We Do It for the Children

PARAGUAY, www.dequeni.org.py.  As every year, Dequeni has Vacation Camps within their diverse projects so that boys and girls can take advantage of the vacation season with cultural and artistic activities, manual projects, excursions, storytelling, sports and games.  For younger children, they have game activities with the help of educators, teachers and volunteer mothers.  The Vacation Camps began officially on January 14th and will last until February 18th.

The children who usually attend a Dequeni Center, and who on the opposite schedule go to school, participate in the Vacation Camps throughout the entire season (from 8 to 16 hours).  This is the case for the open centers:  Casa de Acogida (Fernando de la Mora) and Casa del Niño (Caacupé) which are projects accepting those who work in the public sector or are in danger of doing so.  The summer activities are attractive and seek to guarantee that the boys and girls remain in a safe place without being exposed to the danger of the public sector and the summer heat.  In the case of community centers, the activities take place during mid-season (from 8:00 to 11:00 and 1:00 to 4:00).

Creativity, social exchange and personal growth

Dequeni annually implements the vacation camps during school vacation time with the objective of protecting the boys and girls from child labor and offering them adequate time to promote creativity, social exchange and personal growth.

Also during this season, Dequeni supports in Ypané the project, Open Schools, from the Educational and Cultural Commission.
