Schoenstatt in Portugal is preparing to welcome a large number of young people in the Shrine in Lisbon and in Aveiro; the meeting of the Girls’ Youth and the Festival of the entire Schoenstatt Youth will be held in Lisbon. The Schoenstatt Boys’ Youth will hold their Ignis meeting before World Youth Day in Gafanha, near Aveiro. —
Adoration as preparation for WYD
The preparation has two aspects:
- the practical one, which consists in organizing the whole logistic structure to welcome the young people who will arrive in Lisbon;
- and the spiritual aspect, which includes Eucharistic Adoration.
Until July 27, the Family will hold Adoration from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and at 6 p.m. on Sundays.
Two days will be dedicated to the exchange of experiences between young people from different countries: on July 30, the youth from the Schoenstatt Movement will go on pilgrimage to Fatima, and on July 31, the great MTA Festival will take place.
The MTA Festival is an international gathering of Schoenstatt youth in the Shrine of Lisbon, to which the Schoenstatt Family is also invited. It will take place on July 31, beginning at 4 p.m. in Damão Square. It will begin with a rosary and procession, followed by Mass, dinner and a show.
Due to space limitations and security conditions in the square, the number of participants is limited. And only those who have a ticket will be admitted. Tickets are sold at the reception and can be paid in cash. No tickets will be sold on the day of the festival itself; children under 10 cannot attend.
During WYD 2023
August 1-4, we will welcome young WYD pilgrims from many countries to the shrine in Lisbon.
We are preparing moments to make Schoenstatt’s spirituality and our history known and to create a space where everyone can experience the graces of the shrine! Because of the proximity to Belém, where the WYD Field of Forgiveness will be, we expect many visitors.
