Pope also provides haircuts to homeless people

VATICAN, rd. Following on the back of the toilets and showers for homeless people below the columns in St. Peters’, Pope Francis has now surprised everyone with a barber for those who are destitute.

People who live on the streets around the Vatican will now be able to have a bath, cut their hair and shave.

The initiative by the Office of Papal Charities will be launched on 16 February when the showers are complete.

On 17 November last year, construction began on three showers inside the toilets used by pilgrims located behind the columns, explained the Papal charity spokesperson, Archbishop Konrad Krajewsky, who is responsible for the homeless people who seek refuge underneath the columns, as well as entrances to the buildings and houses in the area, many of which belong to the Holy See and the Diocese of Rome. This prevents the police from bothering them because everyone knows that they are the “Pope’s hobos.”

Haircuts and shaving will be provided on Mondays, when barbershops are closed, and many barbers have volunteered.
