The Pope launched a campaign for prayer for Christian Iraqis through Twitter

ROMA, RD/mda. Recently, Pope Francis asked “the international community to protect all those suffering violence in Iraq” after the United States renewed military operations in the country. Pope Francis reiterated his request to all the devoted Christians of the world, so that they would pray for their co-religionists who are harassed by the Jihadists of the Islamic State (ISIS).

“I ask all men and women of goodwill to join me in praying for Iraqui Christians and all vulnerable populations. An appeal to all families: when you say your prayers, remember all those forced from their homes Iraq #PrayForPeace Lord, we pray that you sustain those who have been deprived of everything in Iraq.#prayforpeace”, stated the series of three messages written by the Pope.

Through several comments published on his Twitter account of the social network, the Pontiff also asked “all the Catholic parishes and communities to offer a special prayer this weekend for Iraqi Christians.”

For its part, the Council of Episcopal Conferences of Europe (CCEE) has written a letter in which it has expressed “their clear rejection of what is happening in Iraq” and concretely “for the persecution of the Christians, that is taking place in the northern part of the country.”

“We join the prayer of the Pope and to those who suffer, we want to express the sentiment of our faithful and of the Catholic Church in Europe,” he added.

In this they have manifested their “spiritual closeness” and have reiterated the call of the international community “to do even more to end this tragedy.” “We cannot do anything more than hope that arms get silent as soon as possible and order comes again to bring hope,” read the letter signed by the president and the vice-president of CCEE, Cardinal Peter Erdo and Cardinal Angelo Bagnasco, respectively.
