She reigns in our hearts for life

PARAGUAY, Mario Gilberto Enciso •

Thirteen years ago, I was called and touched by the Lord with terminal cancer.

This also affected all of my love ones most of all my wife, Glady. She carried the yoke of the cross at my side 365 days of the year. I began my treatment at a private clinic, thinking that things were going to improve as far as treatment with specialized doctors, however the professionals and even the Director/owner treated me very badly there. My wife received the same treatment, and the saddest thing was they dismissed us once all the fees were charged.

From that moment, we began our pilgrimage, already placing my destiny in God and Mary’s hands because with my medical diagnosis, according to science, I had nothing else to do but to wait for death in a short time. And the professional doctors who attended me, told my relatives not to be fools by sustaining treatment, because it was not worth it, they only had to resign themselves and wait for my death at my home.

Walking in confidence

However this is where our complete confidence in Divine Providence began, and in whom I loved so much, the Most Holy Mother– the Blessed Mother. At that moment, I did not know the savior, Our Lord Jesus Christ yet. My wife and I never gave up the flag and with faith placed in the dawn, we went to the cancer hospital with the hope of seeking relief, and that I could receive treatment. We were admitted in the emergency room, where we were left unattended for two or three days. Experiencing great hardship, we were placed in the hospital halls, but the Most Holy Mother began to work miracles; thanks to her, with the support of some people of good will, I finally received help.

After many tests were carried out thanks to a Japanese doctor, who took responsibility for my treatment and I do not doubt that he was sent by the Almighty through the intercession of the beloved Blessed Mother, once they had the results, I was given chemotherapy and radiation therapy so the tumor would grow smaller at least for a few centimeters.

With the treatment and God’s intervention, the tumor shrank a little, and I underwent surgery that lasted nine and a half hours with a very encouraging result and a good prognosis. I was in hospital for nine days, then I was released, and I returned to the ranch where my children cared for me.

I looked at the picture, I offered and prayed

During the chemotherapy treatment and radiation therapy, I went to a healing Mass at San Cristobal Parish with my wife, where we met Jesus of Divine Mercy. Upon entering the parish, the beautiful picture of the Divine Mercy welcomed us, and my wife and I really felt his presence.

During Mass, I looked at the picture with the brilliant rays that went out from his heart and I prayed that he heal me of cancer, I would give my all at his service for the neediest. And so it was, we followed a servants’ course to the apostolate of Divine Mercy for the length of my treatment, which lasted one year. Then I finished my treatment.

The following year through a couple from the apostolate, the beloved Blessed Mother invited us to participate in a talk for couples with the Schoenstatt Movement. My wife accepted without doubting, but I did not want to participate because of rumors that the Movement was supposedly of the wealthy and for the wealthy, and at that time, I was in a very low profile, I did not want to go to an alien place.

However the Blessed Mother had already cornered me through the coincidence that occurred during my hospital stay, where I saw a lot of need, and my wife and I always dreamed about doing something to help. The Blessed Mother pulled us with zeal through a Schoenstatt couple that did volunteer work as members of a Foundation that helped children with cancer. Then conquered by our Mother, I said yes, and that is how we began at the introductory level.

Our guides, Margarita and Luis Ayala, were very good instructors and thanks to the good orientation we received, we learned to persevere and today when we have been in the Movement fourteen years forming a formidable group, Circle 38.

We have some permanent apostolates: we are members of the governing board of Fundación San Peregrino, Eucharistic Ministers in Tupãrenda and San Cristóbal Parishes, heartfelt father and mother of an introductory couples’ group in the Diocese of San Lorenzo and representatives of the Schoenstatt Movement in the National Coordination of Laypeople (CONADELA) that belongs to the Paraguayan Episcopal Conference (PEC).

Nowadays the Blessed Mother not only has chosen to reign in our home, but she also reigns in our hearts for life.
