On the road toward Pentecost, thanking the Blessed Mother for the past year

The Roman family’s annual meeting in preparation for blessing of the Holy Spirit symbol of the in Belmonte.

Schoenstatt’s Roman Family met again on May 18th at Cor Ecclesiae Shrine to celebrate the traditional annual day, which coincides with the end of the school year.

The cold and rainy afternoon’s gloomy climate reflected everyone’s feelings of sadness due to the recent loss of beloved Sister M. Bernadete. However the different Branches’ groups worked to organize and enliven the meeting in the happy memory of the Sisters of Mary’s superior.

A Mass of thanksgiving

Fr. Simon Donnelly and the Fathers living in Rome concelebrated Holy Mass that opened the meeting with the past year’s thanksgiving theme. Fr. Simon’s homily focused on the figure of Fr. Kentenich providing an excellent opportunity to reflect on our Founder and on his cause for beatification. The presence of Fr. Eduardo Aguirre, postulator for Fr. Kentenich’s cause, in our Roman community is also an abundant gift for which the Roman family is grateful, contributing toward many projects and ideas for the future.

At the end of the celebration, each group prepared a representative snapshot of photos from activities developed with each Branch leader presenting it to the attendees. It was a simple and effective way to update everyone about the Movement’s life, events, and to find out about themes that could be taken into next year’s groups.

Upcoming events and celebrations

During the evening refreshments, the anticipated announcement was made regarding two important program events to be celebrated in June: the Feast of the couples (June 6), and the very important blessing of the Holy Spirit symbol at Belmonte’s Matri Ecclesiae Shrine.

The latter will be an event begun with a novena of preparation on May 30, during which the Roman family has committed to pray the rosary every day, at the same time, wherever they might be. The preparation will culminate with the solemn celebration of the Vigil for Pentecost on June 8th, followed by Pentecost Mass on June 9th, the diocese of Rome choir, directed by Master Marco Frisina, will accompany the celebration along with the blessing and placing of the symbol of the Holy Spirit.
