A fantastic pilgrimage through raindrops

GERMANY, Birgit Brömmel •

On Saturday, 10 December, my friend and I were happy to meet again this year. Despite the unexpected drizzle that began at noon, it was clear that we would go the Marian Shrine of Kevelar; it had been awhile since we had gone. We would visit the Blessed Mother in the chapel of graces, receive the sacrament of reconciliation, pray for the people of Aleppo and for several other areas in crisis. Said and done.

We departed, and the drizzle turned into rain. What should we do? Head back?

No, no way, because it could stop raining, or perhaps in Kevelar, it would not be raining, and we were already in the middle of the pilgrimage talking about the Covenant of Love, praying for acquaintances who were not doing well. We were happy to arrive in Kevelar.

Once we arrived in Kevelar, the bad weather kept us from getting out of the car, because of my mobility problems; it would have been difficult and dangerous to walk to the basilica and the chapel with so many wet autumn leaves on the sidewalk.

We did what we could from the basilica parking lot; we greeted the Blessed Mother, who surely was happy with our greeting. We did not let fear overcome us returning home before time, instead we arrived reaching our objective.

Just being there was something fantastic.
