The Polivalente Secondary Institute went on pilgrimage to Mount Sion Gikungu Shrine

BURUNDI, Diomède Mujojoma •

The students of the Polivalente Secondary Institute (I.S.P.) went on pilgrimage to the Mount Sion Gikungu Shrine on the morning of the 27 May 2016. This wasn’t an ordinary pilgrimage; their main aim was to pass through the Holy Door of Divine Mercy. Their teachers and the principal accompanied them.

Upon arriving at the shrine at approximately 9:00 a.m, they were welcomed by the sister who is responsible for the pilgrimages. She invited them to finish their pilgrimage by going in procession to the Holy Door of Mercy of the shrine. There, each student offered their personal prayer. Before this, they were in the Polivalente Hall where they learnt about love and forgiveness during a presentation by Fr. Evariste Harerimana. This was followed by a Mass of Thanksgiving and the gathering concluded with the procession to the Holy Door of Mercy. After reciting some special prayers, they passed through the Door.

“Everything begins and ends in the Shrine”

Every year those in charge of the school organize a pilgrimage to the Schoenstatt Shrine of Mount Sion Gikungu for their students. Each time, a teaching chosen beforehand precedes the Mass of thanksgiving. The school principal, Jean Pierre Ndagijimana, is a son of this shrine because he is one of the founding members of one of the oldest choirs of the Shrine: the Holy Family Choir. He was its president for several years and currently he is the vice-president of this choir. His motto is: “Everything begins and ends in the Shrine”.
