ROME, P. Michael Gerber. Belmonte-Rome: It is 100.4º F (38º C) in the shade … as are the twenty-three fired-up young people, who at this moment are brimming with enthusiasm as hot as the weather, and they are putting this sizzling creative power at the disposal of the Shrine at Belmonte.
For a week now, young Germans have painted walls, cut the grass, and placed pavers. “It’s just great to participate in such a big project,” one hears all the time.
Included in this group is a young recently married couple, Steffi and Matthew, for whom Belmonte plays an important on their path together. After the papal audience, they jumped at the chance to take some “wedding photos” at the construction site.
