Around the Original Shrine
Agathe Hug. In February we had a look at the interior of the Original Shrine - the floor, walls, heating. The month of March invites us to take a look at the statues in the Original Shrine. It is logical that on 19 March the statue of St Joseph is the centre of attention.
Vero Heredia. "Allow me to be a living Shrine of the MTA for the glory of the Father!" I chose this phrase of the Father as the title of this testimony because for some time I have been thinking about this idea in my head and heart that the Shrine not only showers its graces when we enter it; but also, through the life of each one of us. And this how the founder wanted it for his life and he desired it for each one of us. The graces of the Shrine should "go beyond" its walls!
org. "Good day to everyone, happy Covenant Day!" It is so easy. Three phrases in English, German, and Spanish, and the world is not only in the Original Shrine spiritually, but rather, personally at home, at home on this first Covenant Day of 2012. The Holy Mass is transmitted very early in the morning month by month to the entire world through schoenstatt-tv as it has been done for more than one year. Father Andrew Pastore, a Schoenstatt Father from England and four other Schoenstatt Fathers, who work in England, celebrated the Holy Mass on the morning of Covenant Day, 1,002 days from October 18, 2014. Father Pastore has been in charge of the official website, Jubilee 2014, and the monthly bulletin since the middle of 2011 (the second bulletin was sent to the entire world on the previous night).
Agathe Hug/org. On December 24th, the morning of Christmas Eve, the Mass will be celebrated in covenant with Peru. Midnight Mass is always a special event at the Schoenstatt Shrine in Lima, one of the two in the country, and it is a great joy that on the morning of that day, the Mass in the Original Shrine will be celebrated for and with Peru.
Sister María Julia Agüero. It is sometimes very difficult to find a good gift, an original one that expresses esteem and affection, which will be very meaningful to the person who receives it... Is there one that contains all these qualities? Remembering the past Christmases, the friends of schoenstatt.org have experienced how beautiful it is to write one's name and those of our loved ones on a star, and to send it to such a holy place as the Original Shrine.
Agathe Hug. It is obvious - if we were to ask which is the most important date in December for the Original Shrine, most Schoenstatters would probably reply: The Miracle of the Holy Night in 1965, of course! Our Father and Founder had returned on Christmas Eve to the place where his life's work had started. After this night he never entered the Original Shrine again. He was brought back in his coffin. We might be tempted to reflect on how bad, sad and painful it was for him. We would have to calculate, however, that he was independent of space and time as he lived and worked constantly in the presence of God and the Blessed Mother. And if we believe that the same streams of grace flow out from daughter shrines as from the Original Shrine ...
Sr. M. Margarite. The annual conference of the Military Council of Catholic Women-Europe was hosted this year for the third time at the Marienland Retreat Center on Mount Schoenstatt. Registrations this year reached the unexpected number of 129, with women and priests coming from US Army and Air Force military installations in five different European countries. The majority came from different cities within Germany itself.
Agathe Hug. Not just the fanatical historians will find this interesting: What happened today in the Original Shrine in the year ...? If those who attend Holy Mass in the Original Shrine this coming Saturday, 5 November, were asked what connects the shrine at Belo Horizonte, the wayside shrine in Goya and the pariticipants at the Conference 2014, with this day ten years ago, would they know? The answer: Exactly ten years ago a start was made on this day with replacing the roof of the Original Shrine. The old slates landed in a skip (dumpster), that is, until during the afternoon on that day someone started to collect them and take them away (and later sold them), so that they could be sent to the places where new shrines were being built.
Agathe Hug. In October 2011 we are setting out on the second year of preparation for Schoenstatt's Centenary 2014. It would seem that Schoenstatt has always had a special affinity to the month of October. After all, the Founding Document of Old Schoenstatt was signed in October, although in 1143.
mcb. September 18th, Mass at the Schoenstatt Zion Shrine, mcb. "On, September 18th, we united with everyone worldwide, who celebrated the anniversary of the Covenant of Love and the founding day of the capital of grace, and we prayed for the abundant graces of this Shrine, here in Schoenstatt, and above all on Mount Zion… for everyone." To be in front of the screen hundreds of kilometers from the closest Shrine and thousands of kilometers from the Original Shrine and to hear these words caused goose bumps…and to be aware of this truth that those ten or fifteen people who gathered at dawn of September 18th in the Zion Shrine in Schoenstatt are united, thanks to the covenant of love, thanks to this large current of graces that embraces the world with people and places that they have never known or ever will know with hearts all beating with the same love: Your covenant - our mission. Every 18th is such a unique experience!
