“I learned, I met the Blessed Mother and now I have work”

PARAGUAY, Revista Tupãrenda •

At the Tupãrenda Shrine’s facilities, a group of men and women gather to learn culinary techniques, as part of a program called “Career advancement.” This program is aimed at breadwinners or generally interested persons, to train them in a profession with immediate job opportunities, and encouraging their own entrepreneurship.

Liz Vega, a member of the Schoenstatt Movement, is the instructor; she has passed on her knowledge for six years as a service to the Blessed Mother.

Twenty people, twenty entrepreneurs

Currently twenty people are beneficiaries; they come from areas neighboring Tupãrenda: Ypacarai, Pirayú,  Itauguá, San Lorenzo and Lambaré.

The classes are carried out every Saturday, beginning at 2:00 pm, beside Casa Chenú (close to the pavilion). They begin in April and finish in December. The students learn general cooking, preparation of sweet and salty snacks, and pastries.

The training is free. Students only have to provide the ingredients they will use, according to the menu selected.

They get to know the Blessed Mother while they learn to cook

Liz, the instructor, says that it is not simply a group: “During these years, we have formed a family, the participants not only learn how to cook, they also get to know and love the Blessed Mother, that is our greatest reward. Moreover there is an opportunity that through my knowledge, I can be useful to other people. It gives me great strength and a desire to continue to give more.”

I found a job – I was able to start my business

“Several students have approached us to tell us that, they obtained jobs in the area of cooking through these classes. Others relate that they started their own businesses in their homes. They are all graces that are given through the great generosity of our Mother.”
