An important step for the Schoenstatt Fathers in Nigeria

NIGERIA, Fr Alfred Kistler. The 15 September – the anniversary of Fr Kentenich’s death – was an important day for the Schoenstatt Fathers in Nigeria, as well as the Schoenstatt Family in the shadow of the shrine in Ibadan, in this West African country. The Sion del Padre Region of the Schoenstatt Fathers (covering Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay and Italy) took over responsibility for Nigeria. Fr Heinrich Walter, Superior General, and the new higher Superior for Nigeria, Fr Juan Pablo Catoggio, travelled to Nigeria for this important step.

First African meeting of Course Leaders

From 9-19 September the first African meeting of Course Leaders took place with Fr Patricio Moore, General Course Leader, and six Course Leaders. Two of the latter represented the courses in Burundi and the Congo. This occasion brought together all the Fathers working In Nigeria – nine Nigerians and three from Switzerland, Argentina and Germany. Some Nigerian Fathers are in Germany and Argentina at present.

Current Questions

All the students had returned from their holidays and this contributed to a wonderful experience of a growing and impressive community. This was also an opportunity for all the members of the community (with contract-consecration) to discuss current questions on the following day, and to be informed about the most recent developments concerning the original shrine.

Growth

A new Novitiate had already started on 30 August; it is being conducted by a Nigerian Schoenstatt Father, Fr Kingsley Okereke. Fr Reginald Ibe took over his new task as Rector of the philosophy students.

Four seminarians – Gregory, Anthony, Herbert and Chochos – are starting their pedagogical practical.

Holy Mass for Nigeria

October 8th, the whole international Schoenstatt Family is invited to unite with Nigeria, as we celebrate in the Original Shrine the Holy Mass “towards 2014” in covenant with and for Nigeria.
